We went to East in the West for the first time since early in the year and we were not disappointed. We felt safe and comfortable due to the well spaced out tables and the staff wearing face masks. Our food was excellent. We had the Mixed Tandoori Grill, which was beautifully presented, delicious as well as being a very generous portion, and Lamb Malabar which was tender and beautifully flavored. The service was efficient, and the bill was very reasonable for the amount of food we ate. Already booked to return.

Quite simply some of the very best Indian food I have tasted. We came for the dosas as East In The West has them on the starter menu and we've been unable to find anywhere in the area that does them since the Curry Leaf in Exeter closed last year. They were delicious, but the main courses were even more impressive, particularly the pepper lamb whose sauce is to die for. Pappadams, two starters, a main course, two sides, nan bread and rice, plus a bottle of wine came to £60 which is excellent value for money. Next time I'll be trying the lamb shank vindaloo, which Iooks quite spectacular. East in the West is the sort of restaurant that makes you wish you had two stomachs.

We ate here on New Year’s Day, for our Dinner, having decided from very few restaurants open that night, in Paignton. There is probably no cuisine better on a chilly Bank Holiday night anyway; Indian definitely fitted-the-Bill! From entering this restaurant it was clear to see that presentation and quality of ambiance appear important here! East In The West is decorated in a modern way and a mix of music entertained throughout our stay. Service was as we hoped; swift and efficient. The hot food was all presented to us hot and all elements of our meal were tasty. I would say that for the price, portion sizes were very fair and decent. The chutneys and accompaniments with the Poppadoms were great. The sauces, in the main courses were excellent. Overall, a great dining experience and exactly have been able to dine here, on New Year’s Day!

Visited with husband son and daughter-in-law. Pickle tray was tasteless the worst I have ever had very bland requested lime pickle this arrived about 10 mins later. We had a variety of curries and Nann breads which were not good.My dish was the Molly Curry one of the most expensive on the menu as it contains Monk fish and prawn, I had two prawns which were over cooked a extremely tough and the monk I don’t think was monk it was very bland and very flaky this isn’t how monk should be . I mentioned it to the waiter who quickly replaced it with a different curry. I pointed out that it didn’t appear to be monk but he said the Chef said monk was the only fish they have in the restaurant. The second lamb curry was quite pleasant. On the whole I won’t be returning. I went to this restaurant many years ago and it was nice however the food has gone down hill.

Slightly hidden away from the main streets of Paignton, East in the West isn't massive, so would recommend booking. The staff were very efficient throughout and our food all arrived in good time. What is great though is this is not your average Indian. The menu has lots of very different dishes and we all opted for things we hadn't heard of before, rather than the more main stream, like tikka masala. The dishes were all beautifully presented and I loved the little 'buckets' the curries came in. All of the food we had was lovely and very good value. Definitely would recommend as something special.

We visited last night while on a two week holiday in Paignton . This was on recommendation from locals in the area, and it didn’t disappoint . Our table was booked for 8pm and we were greeted at door and shown straight to our table. We order a bottle if chardannay £15.95 which is reasonable price we are from derbyshire and it’s around the same price we would pay back home. We had a couple of pappadum s and pickle tray 65p each for pappadums &£1.95 for pickle tray) I had the saffron jhinga to start , my husband had spice crusted boti kebab. Our mains we both had prawn biryani with a garlic naan to share . All was perfectly cooked and great service. We finshed with coffee has we were full from other food. Our bill came to just under £68 including wine and coffee excellent food at reasonable price & good service highly recommend

Enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings. They brought the wrong meal (chicken instead of lamb)but were apologetic when they checked and confirmed that it was their error, and they did offer to bring the correct dish. To be fair, the chicken biryani was delicious and everyone else enjoyed their meals too.

This is one of the best 'Indian' restaurants we've found in our travels around the country. Very tasty food served in an efficient and friendly manner. A busy Sunday evening and indeed the restaurant appeared busy every evening as we passed by. It also has a popular take away trade but unlike some places that didn't detract from the attentive service in the restaurant. A most enjoyable evening.

Came here based on the previous good reviews and were disappointed. We found that the service was poor, the guy serving wasn’t particularly friendly and seemed like he couldn’t be bothered. The pickle tray was the worst I have ever had- 2 portions of pickled vegetables that tasted of nothing and some watery mango chutney and raita. The peshwari naan was as dry as a bone and the curries were very average. Shame as we expected better, wouldn’t bother again.

We visited here for dinner one Saturday evening, the restaurant was full – and there seemed to be only 2 or 3 waiting staff who were running round like a headless chickens trying to seat everyone, and quickly and abruptly took our drinks order. We opted for a selection of starters including lamb kebab which was very nice, onion bhajis which were ok, poppadom’s and a squid dish which was slightly odd, the sauce was full of large black peppercorns, almost making it inedible. The chutneys with the poppadom’s were nice, however these should be a lot larger for a table of 4 to share (especially as you are charging for them!) These were not topped up and extra was not bought when we had our starters. Our main courses were extremely disappointing. None of the dishes we ordered were particularly flavorful which is what you’d expect from Indian food, the Paneer Tikka Massala was the worst, it tasted like a can of sweetened tomato soup with absolutely zero spicing or flavor. The lamb in the spinach dish was extremely tender, but this was about the only good thing about the meal. The rice portions were small and the peshwari naan was average. We were not offered a dessert so just got the bill. In fairness to the staff who were clearly short staffed, they did a good job, especially the young girl with the blonde ponytail who seemed to be running the show, 5 stars for her service, she remained friendly and smiley throughout, despite being clearly a little under pressure! The same could not be said for some of her male colleagues, one was quite rude and just threw the drinks on the table without a word. Sadly due to the food, we will not be returning here or recommending to others.

Not the first time we have been to this restaurant and it never disappoints. Staff are attentive and make you feel welcome. Food is always of a high standard and well presented. Not your typical Indian menu but if you do ask for something that may not be on the menu they do try to accommodate you. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Finally managed to try the new addition to The Bay, the restaurant is now occupying what was my former favourite Indian so had a lot to live up to. Being a Sunday I was surprised at how many people were already in, and that being early doors prior to 7 pm! Firstly the negatives...lager is £4.25 for a half and yet £5.95 for a pint, not good if you only want a half! Pickle tray was minus any kind of spicy pickle, it only contained mild chutneys, which actually pleased my wife but not me! I was assured they will be adding a pickle soon. I can't understand why they hadn't already! The bowls that contained the chutneys are tiny, meaning it was necessary to request a refill of the onion, thankfully they did not charge over and above the already ( in my opinion) highly priced £2.95 for the selection. That's the bad parts over, so the good points, our waiter was very efficient and friendly too, there was absolutely no delay at all during the meal, poppadoms and chutney tray for starters, the wife opting for the good old Brit dish of Chicken Tikka Masala, which for the first time in our experience was not bright red thanks to too much food colouring! She said it was delicious! I had the beef Vindaloo, which contrary to many restaurants, was not an Uber hot dish, but tasted far more true to what Vindaloo should do! It was delicious too, even the wife had a taste and loved it! Currently the menu is still limited, no Bhuna for instance, which is my usual'go to' dish, madras hot with extra dhaniya (coriander) Interesting to see some Asian families dining there, which to my mind is a good recommendation. The bill ,which included 3 pints of Cobra, and 3 Glasses of Merlot came to £73, a fairly hefty increase since I last dined in the premises prior to East In The West occupying them. Is that average nowadays? All in all, great food, excellent staff, and a good atmosphere, we will return, but not until a spicy pickle has been added to the chutney tray! 😂

Really tasty food, fresh ingredients and great seafood - as well as a choice of the usual dishes. A gem of a place in Paignton. Very fairly priced wine list too. If you like your Indian food to be of high quality but not highly priced, try this place. The Kerala prawn curry was the best dish I’ve ever tasted!

I ate here a couple of years ago whilst working away, it was very good so I was more than happy to give them another go, this time getting a takeaway and taking it back to hotel. The food is well above the quality you’d expect from most curry houses, really full of flavour and good quality. The service on collection was quite cold though, which is why I didn’t round up to 5 stars.
