The Head Of Steam in Durham is a superb craft beer bar on North road that offers a superb beer range and a tasty food menu and was one of the last bar's we visited on a day trip from Newcastle. The Head Of Steam...is housed in a building that has a roof-top terrace and a fantastic courtyard. The inside is superb with lot's of beer related features throughout the bars interior and superb seating options. We have visited many Head Of Steam bars around the UK and this bar was as good as any we have been to.When we visited here we had a Motörhead Röad Crew American Pale ale which were superb and price wise on par with other Head Of Steam bars that we we have visited. This is a fantastic bar and well worth a visit and really easy to get to from Millburngate bus stop its a few minute's walk.(This is my first review of the Head Of Steam). Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-12.00-23.00. Nearest Bus Stop. Millburngate bus stop.More

So, first of all I fully accept that there is a shortage of staff at the moment, and thst there have been issues with deliveries. However... Booked a table for 2 in advance, with an email from the venue confirming it. Turned up on time...to puzzled looks and no table reservation. Was shown to a table and told that it was cash only at the bar and that you could only pay by card or order food by using the app. Struggled to get the app working as the mobile signal is sketchy in the pub and internet was slowish. Finally got it up and running to find out that there was hardly any food available on the menu as most things were sold old. Staff friendly, but absolutely off their minds busy. There was a party taking place upstairs, and I have seen in the response to other reviews that the manager has blamed this for lack of did options. However, if this is the case why take a booking. If there was a big party on, that's fair enough, but don't give assurances that you can provide a service for other people on the same night. If you had simply told me you were busy, that would have been fine. I would say that this place is fine if you just want drinks (although we didnt get a chance), but if you want food I would go somewhere else.More

We visited after dinner to catch the last hour, having checked first it was open, it being a Sunday evening. We arrived at 21.50 to be told they had just called last orders as it was quiet but we could order a quick drink but...it would have to be outside as it was full inside! We placed an order, waited 10 mins to be told that the drinks would not be coming as the bar had in fact closed. The bar was still completely full. The only reason I have given 1 star is that they did offer 3 free shots (though there were 5 of us) I did think that bars were trying to claw back losses incurred during lockdown but not this one Very poor firm. The bar is still showing as open as I write this review from my hotel roomMore

Friendly staff serve you from a fine range of Belgian and craft beers. What more could you want ? Mainly a crowd younger than the other great craft beer pub in Durham centre.

We visited the Head of Steam in Durham and were served by Keiron who usually works in Leeds. I am primarily writing this review due to the attentiveness of Keiron and how thorough he was in making sure my partners food was free of all...allergens. He really went into great detail checking the menu to ensure what she ate was safe, and offered suggestions and the ability to build her own meal. This sounds like It would be a given at most places, however we have had some nightmare experiences. It's one of the first times she was able to eat her food without the worry. Keiron also made sure we were never without a beer, was full of great recommendations, and just had all round good craic. This was our first day out together since having a kid, and we had a cracking few hours. There's a class selection of craft beers and the food options are great; including some excellent vegan food. Food was tasty, hot, and morish. We will definitely be back!More

This is a brilliant find and had the biggest choice of vegan food I've ever seen, fantastic and extremely well presented. It has a great atmosphere and the customer service is second to none. It's where the shiny, happy people seem to hang out. The...cutlery is bamboo though, so if you have an aversion to this, just bring your own fork.More

Nice bar, part of Head of Steam chain, been doing craft before it was trendy. I had a nice Czech lager outside in the sun. Had a very tasty burger too.

This place is everything you could want in a bar/restaurant. Music selection is excellent, countless choices of beers/ales/lagers. The food is lovely and well priced. The best thing about Head of steam Durham though? The people. They made us feel welcome straight away, there was...a minor issue with one of our meals and the way the staff handled the situation was brilliant. Cannot fault the customer service of the bar staff and the chef was very understanding too. Thank you very much, we'll definitely be coming again.More

Hi Abbie, Thank you for the kind words. We get kick out of seeing how much people enjoy spending time with us. We’ve got a new menu starting in October, so there’ll be plenty of new food and beers to try. Cheers, HOS Durham.

There is definitely no parking at the pub, I'm not sure where the nearest parking would be. I always walk there from wherever I am staying.
