Had a wonderful meal here this evening. Ordered the pork terrine starter. No jelly, all meat and a very substantial starter. The Scottish halibut main course was perfectly cooked and a perfectly sized portion for me. My daughter had the stuffed courgette flowers so I...More

We took our son as a special night out - as a student this is beyond his usual means, being I think the most expensive place to eat in Durham city. What a disappointment and certainly not worth the extra you pay in this restaurant...More

Those read our reviews know they are honest and usually very fair. Its a nice place below ground level just in Saddle street, the sign is not that easy to spot but it is there, it would be well worth making the sign a bit...More

We started off with complimentary warm beer bread with cherry glaze- lovely! 3 starters of wood pigeon breast with balsamic and beetroot, rather small portion but good flavour pairing and nicely cooked meat. All 3 mains couldn't be faulted, the chicken was particularly tender in...More

As a rare meal out with my lovely wife it was hit and miss. At the time of booking I mentioned my wife gluten intolerance. When we arrived it seemed they where surprised of that fact. Hence the long wait for bread that arrived a...More

This was my second visit, having previously dined here several years ago shortly after it opened. At that time, I was somewhat underwhelmed, however based on more recent reviews, decided to have a second look. The service was efficient, and the atmosphere friendly. This is...More

A set of precipitous stairs leads down to this restaurant with a nice view of the river. Waitstaff were attentive and caring. Food was haute cuisine, inventive if a bit precious. For starter, had gravlax salmon with tiny cucumber balls and a truly brilliant gin...More

I took my wife for a overnight stay in Durham and decided to treat ourselves. I found the Cellar Door reviews and was impressed by how many people liked it. The location is a bit unusual and I would definitely not recommend it for older...More

Description
Passion. It is quite often impossible to summarise the experience created within a restaurant with just one word. Passion. Passion to produce the best food possible with the freshest and finest ingredients we can scour the world to find. Passion to strive to be the best. Passion to ensure that our customers remember. Passion to cater for people from all walks of life and give them a lasting memory of our restaurant. We're not going to tell you about how we have stunning river views with outdoor dining set in a 13th Century cellar conversion. We're not going to bore you with how difficult we are to find. We want you to come here, seek us out, walk down those narrow steps, be surprised by what lies beneath and leave wishing you had found us sooner. We're not perfect, we're not the best in the world, but we strive to be the best we can and evolve every day, so come join us on our journey.
