Went here for lunch with a couple of friends from out of town. We had been recommended by a local and they were not wrong. The beer was in very good condition, the menu had plenty of appetising looking dishes to choose from, the service was friendly and efficient and the whole experience was brilliant. We will be back soon!!

What a great find!! We are often disappointed by pub food but it was one of the best pub meals we've had in a long time. Plenty of lovely choices on the menu, it was hard to choose! Food was delicious and freshly cooked and the service was excellent too. We were a party of 12 but the food all... More

My partner, myself & our friends were looking for a pub lunch on the way back from a camping trip... we were so glad we popped into The Royal Oak. Lovely clean & cosy pub/restaurant with amazing food. All dishes were freshly cooked & piping hot. My partner had the fish & chips which he said was the best fish... More

Great choice in the menu, all the food we ordered was outstanding. I had the trout and it was beautifully cooked. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a delicious meal. The food was nicely presented and was cooked to perfection. One of the best meals we have eaten out. The staff were very welcoming and great service.... More

When you're in a place you've not been to before, you very often have to rely on a gut feeling - initial impressions are vital and The Royal Oak didn't disappoint. It has a very pleasant feel and is thankfully backed by great food! The service was great and my fish pie up with the best. Highly recommended!

We booked a dinner meal . My wife chose two starters and I had a starter and a main meal. My wifes starters particularly the baked brie with re onion marmalade were excellent. The service was very good and particularly friendly and the beers and wines were great value and taste.

We were having a child free weekend away at HPB Merlewood near Grange over Sands, a new area for us. We'd spent the day in the drizzle tramping up to Hampsfell and the Hospice (sadly no views in the mist) and booked in to eat at the Royal Oak after recommendations by other HPB visitors. The pub has been smartened... More

An excellent pub to have Sunday lunch - at least, that was our verdict after dining here. It's a popular spot, so booking may be advised. By the time we arrived, the spring lamb had all gone. We opted for the three-course lunch which is very modestly priced. And we enjoyed every mouthful. My starter of smoked chicken was light... More

Smoked duck great starter was great. Chilli pickle was quite spicy. I had hake from specials which was good. My wife had sirloin steak which was ok but she felt a little tough. Diane sauce was excellent. Would recommend but maybe not the steak.
