Came by yesterday, a Thursday lunchtime hoping to have a quick lunch and pint only to find a big For Sale sign on the road side, the car park empty and all the blinds down on the ground floor windows. No sign of life. Checked...More

After visiting the goose fair in Tavistock which was very disappointing, more like a fairground with market stalls mostly selling rubbish and, not one piece of local produce not even a goose, we departed almost as soon as we had arrived. Not able to get...More

Thank you Terry, that was very kind. To be fair, I took my nippers (9 & 8) to the fair later that evening and discovered my stomach isn't what it used to be when it comes to thrill rides!! The waltzers, for instance, lasted about...More

Stopped of for Sunday lunch on our way home from a weekend away. Even though they had a dilemma as one of the kitchen staff had call in sick - the staff battled on to ensure everyone got their lunch - there was a short...More

Thanks David for you kind review. Things did get pretty busy on Sunday but I'm glad you appreciated our efforts, welcome and food. Be lovely to see you again next time you're passing.

We arrived - 4 adults and an 8 month old baby- and were simply given the warmest welcome ever. From stepping in we knew we had made the right choice of hostelry tonight. Lawrence took over at The Royal Standard about 12 months ago and...More

Thank you so much for coming in last week; it was a wonderful, if slightly busy, evening and lovely to meet and chat to you all. We hope to see you again should you return to Devon on holiday next year.

I've visited about ten times over the past year and I rate the cellar and range of beers and ciders very highly at this pub - good choice of local brews and well looked after. Having read some of the previous reviews, and eaten here...More

We stopped here whilst passing through Tavistock, I'm glad we did! The landlord couldn't have been more accommodating of my young family and the food he served was really top notch. If you're in the area, give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Hi Elle, thanks for the review but it is a shame you had to air your dirty linen in public having been fired for gross misconduct. I won't respond to your ridiculous list of complaints except to say that such nonsense is actually libellous.
