Dropped by today for lunch. I had oxcheek with root vegetables and my husband had prawn linguine. Fantastic food and wonderful service. Tucked away in Donnington village - a very pretty village just outside Newbury. What a find! Will definitely be going there again!

This is a charming picturesque pub with the River Lambourn opposite. The atmosphere is cosy and the landlord is very welcoming and personable(sadly leaving in six months time). But the highlight is the food-straightforward pub food but very well prepared; the fact is the faggots are worth the five stars on their own.

Reading some of these reviews can't help thinking I visited the wrong pub. I've visited this pub twice now with the current owners. The first time the welcome was very lukewarm from the guy behide the bar. We ordered drinks then another round to be told after we had paid for our drinks that he was closing at 10.30pm. Why... Hi and thank you for taking the time to write this review, however, it would be useful to know when you visited. I am also slightly confused as we do not have a vegetarian pasta dish on our menu, our current vegetarian choice is an aubergine & red onion dhal with cauliflower rice. I am sorry that you feel the... More

Had a lovely fish finger sandwich and a pint for lunch with my husband. The menus a bit limited and slightly in the pricey side hence the 3. Worth a visit for a drink though if you are in the area.

Nice location in the quiet Newbury "suburb" of Donnington, near the castle. Outside seating next to the river Lambourn opposite the pub across the (very quiet) road. Nice building inside, too. Service was very friendly. The food is essentially pub grub, mine was hot and fine. Beer was nice and well-kept. Would happily go back.

We went for a mid-week family lunch at the Three Horseshoes based on its excellent TripAdvisor reviews. The garden was a little disappointing as it's really just a corner of the car park, but it is a pretty setting by the river with a lovely weeping willow. Service was friendly, but I felt the food was unexciting. I had a... More

We called in to this wonderful village pub last week as a 'walk in' only to find them so popular that they were fully booked :-( We didn't take a chance this week and booked ourselves in for Sunday lunch. We have eaten traditional Sunday lunch in many pubs in and around Newbury, but this is by far the best... More

We had fabulous time celebrating this gorgeous pubs first birthday at the weekend. The staff work tirelessly to provide a wonderful experience for its customers. The party held by the pretty river, had all the ingredients for a lovely afternoon in the sun....Sara, the landlady, clearly loves her pub and caters for her customers every drinking, eating and fun atmosphere... Went here on the 30/7 for a few pints with my mate, got chatting to the landlady while sat out in the beer garden and she is a great laugh, made us feel very welcome too. To top it off, I had the best cheesey chips I have had for a very long time. Simple but good! Will be going... More
