Exceptional food, fantastic service, brilliant atmosphere.

Wow! What an incredible meal my partner and I had here. Everything was spot on. We had the mushu roll, bang bang karaage, crispy squid, salmon tacos, edamame beans, and a pork Raman. Everything was served tapas style and the food came out as expected, small dishes out first to nibble on, then hot food with the Raman last. I have to say, the bang bang and squid were some of the best street snacks I've had in a long time, the flavours were there and the squid was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was also beautiful, the changing colours and LEDs really brought the room alive. The service was exceptionally friendly, we felt really cared for by all of the servers. The bill was very reasonable for the quality of the food and experience. Will definitely be returning.

Lively Sunday

visited on a busy sunday evening, and all was good. biggest compliment i can pay is, it's the best katsu curry i've had in a restaurant (i used to love wagamama's until they changed the recipe a few years' ago; i preferred their accompanying salad, tbf). we also had some sushi and gyoza (can't remember the missus' main dish), and that was also good. drinks are a little expensive and, perhaps, it may be trying to be too trendy, but would definitely go again.

All round enjoyable experience.

After two visits, actually can’t fault this restaurant. The ambience is relaxed and even when busy, it still feels intimate. The staff are very well trained and extremely efficient offering just the right amount of attention to each table. The menu is varied and we look forward to many more visits in order to sample as much of it as possible.

Took too long

Whilst the atmosphere and food was amazing, and we also received excellent service from our server we did have a couple of grumbles. It took over an hour and a half for the sushi platter to come and it came after others had finished their mains. We thought being in the restaurant would be so much quicker than ordering takeaway but it rooks our not so much! So this means that’s we’ve deducted a star. We also discovered, because we asked, that staff only receive tips if they are given them in cash and directly. Any tips on card go to the restaurant’s owners and not staff. We felt this was absolutely unacceptable. Therefore we marked this restaurant another star. Good food. But must do better for their staff and fix delays in the kitchen.

Overpriced and service poor

Food is generally good and well presented. Some dishes are overpriced for what you get (e.g. Dorayaki). Service was inattentive (I do wonder who has written the review about attentive service) and it felt inexperienced - a fair amount of standing around waiting for dishes from the kitchen rather than checking on tables. Dishes from the main course, for example, weren’t cleared before asking if we wanted dessert. Service charge of 10% was automatically added which, in a family group, is awkward to decline - simply bringing food from the kitchen doesn’t justify a tip.

Sensational!

The food was absolutely spot on! Enjoyed it so much. We ordered several small plates and every single one was amazing. Can't fault at all. Service was also fabulous - really friendly staff from the moment we walked in. Liora looked after us wonderfully and was so attentive and always made sure we had our food and enough to drink. Thanks unagi, we deffo will be back!

What a fab time!

I came to Unagi with a friend at the end of December on a Friday evening. The aesthetic as soon as you walk into the building is amazing and has clearly had a lot of thought. All the staff were friendly upon arrival, the music was great and set the scene for our evening. We ordered cocktails to start and they were fabulous!! We ordered a mix street snacks, and hot food to share. My friend ordered a sushi roll also. The food is tapas style which I love because you never feel too full all at once. The pork miso ramen was the win for me and was exactly what I hoped it would be! Shout out to making such a great Japanese in Altrincham.

Sooo tasty

It’s perfect, one of the best sushi’s we’ve tried and lovely/attentive staff. Beautiful setting perfect for our date night 🥰 The wine glasses were gorgeous and could tell the food is fresh, the menu is extensive and innovative. I can’t recommend it enough!!

Cocktail lovers dream

Popped in for a quick birthday drink but ended up staying to try more from the impressive cocktail menu. Dan served us and was very knowledgeable and couldn't help us enough. From just popping by, we ended up staying a couple of hours and sampling the fabulous food, my absolute favourite was the salt and pepper squid which Dan advised was a new addition to the menu. We will be 'popping' back very soon as the atmosphere and service was top notch.

A sushi lovers dream destination

A definite go-to if your a foodie - Unagi Sushi is superb & some of the best I've ever enjoyed & the quality of their fish is unmatched in Manchester Hot snack at the top of my list is the bang bang cauliflower - a vegetable I have never even liked in the past!!! Order it & thank me later..... Great, friendly service added to a lovely overall experience. Nice addition to Altrincham

Disappointing

Food was nice, however, service was very disappointing. It was quiet on the evening we dined and more staff were on than needed so we were expecting good service, however, we were never asked once if we wanted more drinks or how the food was. We were constantly left trying to get their attention if we wanted anything, it took about 10 minutes until we could catch their eye for them to come over. Service charge on the bill and tip offered on card machine after all of this.

Great experience

We had a great evening at Unagi - lovely new venue and Chloe looked after us wonderfully! Crispy squid was really tasty and better than other Japanese restaurants! We will be back soon I’m sure :)

Another fabulous meal at Unagi

Another fabulous meal at Unagi. Eaten here three times now and consistent amazing food and service. I’m not a sushi lover but still so many dishes to choose from. Udon noodles are delicious and spicy. The restaurant itself is amazing with great lighting and music. Sadie, Gabe, Dan and Josh were very attentive and we can’t wait to come back to try more dishes!

BRILLIANT sushi and Japanese food!

We’ve been going to Unagi ever since it started as a little silver van in Altrincham, the food has always been amazing but now in their beautiful new site it is better than ever! I’ve had sushi in top restaurants all over the world and I can honestly say that Unagi is right up there with the very best. The restaurant itself is such a great site and has a brilliant atmosphere. Josh, Sadie and the team are brilliant and always so attentive. Just love everything about it. Often worth booking in advance through their website as they do get very busy!

Great food and service

Great place for a light lunch. The food was incredibly yummy, service was quick yet not rushed. Staff are attentive (checked for an intolerance one of us had and made sure we were okay with ingredients). Great vibe all round and modern asian feel to it. Had a pleasant meal and will definitely be back.
