Booked ahead due to CoVid chaos for 2 consecutive nights and so glad we did. Steak pie was succulent and every positive review here is right. The chips are amazing, no grease, crisper than crisp and beautifully soft inside. Venison stroganoff very tasty and the portion size spot on. Cheese board for dessert is for one person and two of us struggled to finish it! Gammon and fish pie for the second night and absolutely great. Cheese board again and we were still defeated. Ordered a bottle of wine first night and asked if they could keep the other half for the next night and no problem. The hand pulled ales are great too and staff advise on them so you get what's to your taste. In fact nothing was too much trouble. Staff here are super welcoming and helpful. Despite CoVid restrictions and less customers, they are really busy as everything is table service but they've taken it all in their stride, they're patient with every customer and delivering a fabulous customer service. Looking forward to our next visit to the area and will be booking in to be sure we can be here.

Took grandchildren and parents for “birthday dinner”. Giant portions were too much for adults and half-portions defeated the kids. Still enjoyable and friendly team makes it a fun experience. Good ale of course

At the Swan last night with 5 friends had a great meal with great service With a smile and we all said it was just the tonic and a reminder we needed about what we had missed with the lockdown. Thanks to Ann and the team recommend a visit to anyone looking for great value for money , friendly and professional service and just great food the Steak Pie was a particular favourite with us but for me the Cream of Watercress soup starter was the winner …. Thanks !!

We visited here earlier today to celebrate my partners birthday with his family. I want to start off by saying, we regularly visit The Swan with Two Nicks and always enjoy our visit, but today was disappointing. First of all, it took a while after our starters for our main course to arrive. When it arrived it was cold, hard and chewy. We expressed our concerns with the waiter who had dealt with our complaint rather unprofessionally, leaving us feeling quite embarrassed. This is because after we expressed our concerns he returned moments later, telling us that he had spoken to another table and that their food was fantastic and he doesn’t see the issue, which again made us feel undermined and that we were made out to be in the wrong. We received a 20% discount, but since we left quite a lot of food on our plates and with the service we had received, we didn’t feel that the total price was justified. We ended up settling the bill and leaving to have our dessert elsewhere.

We arrived for Sunday lunch to be told that our reservation had been put in the diary for the previous day. We would not have minded if the wait (and no apology) had been worthwhile. Asked by the manageress if everything was OK, we replied that we had not started our meal - she stormed off, not to return (probably just as well). The menu board says, amongst other things, home cooking and fresh vegetables. What we were served were frozen peas, frozen Yorkshire pudding and sub-standard meat. This was a meal towards the lower end of the carvery spectrum. It's location on the Bridgwater Canal and at the beginning of a path into Dunham Massey (NT) is its main attraction. But if you want a much better Sunday lunch go The Jolly Thresher, a couple of miles towards Lymm.

Thank you for sharing your experience and I now have the right to reply. Yes indeed you are correct we did have your booking for the day before of which I apologised and said an error has been made and not sure how. You were very abrupt in your manner . I managed to secure a lovely table by the log burner for you in no time at all. You were served quickly . I as I do with all diners go back when I see you are eating to check if all is ok. I received a very brash and again abrupt reply from you to which I said I am sorry to ask . All the staff kept a distance from you as at least four members all commented on how rude your demeanour was and yes I stayed away from you as I wasnt going to be spoken to again in such a horrid tone. As for the meal the meat comes from a very high quality butcher WH Frost and sons and was well received by all other diners. The vegetables are all fresh and real.himenade gravy from the meat juices.

I appreciate it was busy and we did book last minute, but it doesn’t give an excuse for the poor quality of food. we ordered the burgers which seemed to have been deep fat fried for about 3 hours and was like eating a crisp on a bun, the starter took over 40 minutes to arrive, spring rolls were ok but came with a smidge of sweet chilli sauce I had to ask for more. Yes we didn’t really say anything before we left, we didn’t eat all our meals, we’ll just decide to never come back ever again. I can see by the owner replies you don’t really like Criticism but maybe you should take it in to improve your business so new customers return.

This used to be a lovely place to eat and the owners took such pride in it. I think the ownership must have changed as we went last night and I doubt we’d go again. The place wasn’t cosy & welcoming like it used to be. It seems they have a problem with the floor so the bar was cordoned off and no fire lit. I don’t think there was heating on either. We ordered food but our shared starter was inedible. We heard someone complaining about the wine on another table so, when the waitress came to ask about our starter, we told her our issue and joked “we’ve just heard the complaint about the wine so we’re not holding much hope for the mains” which must have upset her as we got no apology for our starter, she was very rude about the person who didn’t like his wine and just walked away. At that point we decided to leave ourselves. The manager was lovely & tried to rectify things but we decided to cut our losses and leave.

I am so sad to read this review. We had been closed for the first two days after the Christmas break to carry out essential repairs. We have just had the floors restored and they look amazing. But when some floor boards were lifted to replace a leak was found the perils of old buildings when you start renovating for this reason the area was taped off to dry out and this is only for 5 days. For health and safety we sealed the area off so no one could trip up and sadly the log burner is also in this area. The main var had a lovely roaring fire going and Dayna the manager on duty did point this out to you as you arrived late on in the evening just before food service stopped and the restaurant was becoming empty. Re the wine comment. Our waitress Tracey knew the regular very well that didnt like the wine, he is in fact a friend of the owner and is a wine buff who only really drinks wines at over £200 a bottle so our Rioja was not to his liking he does this everywhere and she wanted to explain that to you but you had left when she returned to see you. None of the staff would be rude about a customer to another. As for the starter I agree we got it wrong but we were happy to replace and I apologise for our error. I do hope that you consider a re visit when we have completed the works and you will see a different place. I have ran this place for 15 years and so no change of manager. Sadly I had finished at 6pm the night you came in after working every day for weeks and deserved a few hours kn a quiet night with family and friends. Ann manager

Came here as it was closest to our hotel and had space for 2 tables of 5, we ordered our food, it wasn't busy and took at least 45 mins to come out. Food was diabolic. £14 for a steak that tasted frozen, ordered around 5 bacon cheese burgers, could have ordered better from a kebab house. The bacon in the burger tasted gone off, made one of us throw up and one of us diarrhoea. Forgot all the Coslaw on our plates too. Do not reccomend at all.

I have sent a private message for clarity to this review as I am not sure it is definitely the Swan at little bollington. We don't have a £14 steak on our menu or bacon cheeseburger at the moment and also coleslaw. So I am just thinking is it a different Swan?

Myself, my daughter and my mother in law visited last Saturday and from start to finish, the experience and food was appalling. We were 'greeted' with a very miserable looking waitress that was annoyed we had come in via the front door (which was open), because she'd not opened up fully but was about to do so. Once we took our seats outside we ordered drinks and decided only to get some humous, pitta and carrot to share as a snack as we were going out for lunch later. For £8 I would expect a medium size starter portion, but what arrived to the table was embarrassing. I fully understand profit margins, but this was a shop bought pitta and the whole plate must have had a cost price of around 70pence maximum. Definitely not value for money. Considering we were the first to order and it wasn't busy, there was no excuse for what we were served. One pitta that had been toasted, but was stone cold and hard. A small ramekin of houmous which had weird pink bits in and a few Carrot sticks that were dried out and not the freshest. It's very rare that I leave food, but this was left half eaten. Even the waitress seemed to be used to this because she came over when the plate was still half full and said 'All done' and swiped away the plate before we answered. I would have given no stars, but that's not an option.

So sad to read this I have spoken with the lady concerned and she is sorry she cake across as rude. She was more flustered trying to open and ventilate the premises as we always do with covid precautions and she was on her own due to a staff member calling in to self isolate. You arrived before we were open and yes doors open to ventilate the pub 30 mins prior to opening. So apologies from her As per the starter it is a starter for one person not a sharer for 3 people.

It's been a while since we've had a Sunday roast here, and I can now remember why. On arrival, at 4pm table wasn't ready; had to wait 10 mins at the bar, not ideal but not a major issue, had to ask staff to wipe them down though. Starters were lovely, by that I mean the Mushrooms and creamy Garlic sauce. However the Pate came out with Bread instead of Toast which was an odd one! We were advised they had ran out of Pork, so the 3 meats would have extra beef/chicken which was fine. However once our roasts came out, the chef had decided to half the Yorkshire puddings! because they were low on them, and also completely missed off the Swede Mash because they had ran out. No Stuffing either, when we asked for this, it came out pale and undercooked - microwaved. The meal lacked any sort of taste, Roast Potato's were pale and bland, 2 veg were carrots and cabbage and looking around we'd wished we'd gone for the Fish and Chips that looked amazing! To be fair, the manager knocked 20% off the overall meal (as they ran out of Blacksheep Ale too!) and down graded 2 main meals to kids meals. But overall not a great experience and certainly wont be returning to spend our £150 anytime soon sadly.

So.pleased to see the Swan open again..missed it so much!! As usual.food lovely with Sunday roast still the best in the area! My beef was excellently cooked with lots of vegetables and roast potatoes. The honeycomb cheesecake for pudding was a delight..very different but lovely with just the right amount of honeycomb. Glad to see coffee is now Illy...much better then what was served previously. Very sensible precautions taken to ensure our safety..temperature of visitors aken before entry into pub allowed and tables chairs menus sanitised after every visitor had finished their meal and left. Staff as helpful as ever all wearing masks or face shields and plastic aprons... if you have never tried a meal here we can highly recommend it for a post lockdown treat...or for a meal or snack for any occasion ! The beer and wine is good too.

Went for our first post lockdown family meal and picked The Swan as it has been one of our favourite local venues in previous visits. As it was a hot day and there was an event on the beer garden and bar were packed but the restaurant itself was reasonable and many precautions were taken to make us feel very safe in the current covid conditions (staff wearing PPE and all customers temperature checked on entry with a simple scan on the forehead). A disposible menu was somewhat reduced from normal but had plenty of options. We had 4 mains which all went down well and 4 deserts which were a highlight (especially the trifle and the lemon drizzle cheesecake). The only disappointments were that fish and chips didn't appear on the menu which we then consequently discovered other people had ordered and our deserts were delivered separately (2x2 with a few minute gap) as it transpired one of our orders had run out.

Sat outside, plenty of staff to look after you and provide table service as standard. It was a shame that you have to pay for drinks/food at each round. Our server was pleasant enough, even though she seemed annoyed when we kept asking for more items as she had to keep coming back to our table. Most of the food was delicious, however, sticky sausages were anemic and rather unsticky!

Thank you for your review. As most customers are now sat outside we do operate a pay as you go system as we did pre lockdown when you ordered inside at the bar to eat outside. Nothing new there. Apologies on behalf of the waitress we have identified the member of staff and had a chat. Sausages have also changed. We welcome feedback and we act upon it where we feel appropriate so thank you for taking the time to review us

After Covid-19 and because of the lovely weather, we wanted to sit outside, it is not possible to book a table outside but when we called, the staff advised us as tot he number of tables currently available outside and so left the choice with us. We arrived and found a table outside easily and the staff were very attentive, they immediately took our drinks order and came back with a menu. They explained the process of operation since Covid-19. The food lived up to its expectation, although the part baked brad roll wasn't as expected, this was very soon rectified and some! We also said that we were not fond of part of the meal and asked if there was a substitution available and this was delivered without question. All in all, we were really glad we stopped by and can't wait to go again. Well done to Ann and her team for going that extra mile, all staff wore PPE and tables were cleaned as soon as they were emptied.

Staying close by so called here for a lunch one day and evening meal the next. Very friendly reception and service throughout and health & safety taken seriously with social distancing, temperature taken, cutlery in sealed bags etc. Lunch was good, warm sandwich and chips and a drink and okay on pricing. Evening meal didn't quite live up to expectations although portions were generous. Had much better steak pie crust etc although the contents were tasty. Colleague had to leave all batter of fish and chips as under-cooked - did mention it to the staff and they dealt with it immediately and offered a free-dessert as apology. Would return as had the feeling this was just 'unlucky'.
