We had a fantastic lunchtime meal (ordered from the cosy lunch menu) it was very reasonable and totally delicious.
Our waiter Nick was chatty and helpful - he recommended the belly pork and it certainly did not disappoint.
We enjoyed the music and had a fantastic oval table. All Covid measures were in place and we felt safe and very well looked after.
A fantastic 5* meal!
We definitely will be returning and have already suggested that friends visit for Sunday lunch tomorrow.

As a family with 2 young children we ordered food quite quickly. Long delay between starter & mains.
Starter plate still sat when the mains were brought out. We had to clear the plates ourselves onto an empty table
Food was great quality & tasty.
At no point from when we ordered not during the meal did anyone come to see how we were doing or offer any drinks.
As we were leaving 4 members of staff stood talking with no one acknowledging or saying bye. Including an employee sat on a laptop at one of the tables.
Overall great food worse customer experience I’ve had for a long time.

This is my third time visiting the rope and anchor and I can say that this place never disappoints! I brought my friends with me this time and they all had a lovely time. We ordered from the light lunch menu (3 courses for £15). Massive bargain for the quality of food we received, it was excellent. Our 2 waitresses were incredibly friendly, they seemed quite young but experienced and nothing was too much trouble. It was quite a busy lunch time and they handled the rush very well and professionally. Brilliant service! I would recommend this place to anyone for a lovely meal out. Food is reasonably priced for the quality you receive and the staff create a really warm and friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit!!

My boyfriend and I came here for Sunday lunch and when we arrived we were kept waiting outside until we were eventually welcomed in to our table (after booking in advance). It took 20 minutes until somebody came over to take our drinks order and when it arrived along came some sarcastic/rude comments. We were placed next to the bar (no other tables were available) so felt uncomfortable to start with as it was clear that the bar staff could hear our conversations. It then took a further 30 minutes until we had to ask a member of staff if we could order some food to which they replied they ‘would have to send a waitress over’. The food arrived and we both thoroughly enjoyed it but couldn’t help to feel uneasy by the staff that were hanging about near our table. We came with the intentions of having desserts/more drinks etc but decided that we just wanted to leave after we ate our food as it wasn’t a place we felt comfortable in staying, as we felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff the entire time. The food was lovely but the hospitality was poor and the staff were rude.

Visited yesterday for a roast dinner, arrived and blonde lady at the till was very unbothered and just said sit anywhere over there, took 10 mins before I had to get up and ask her for a menu as she hadn’t brought one over and then when I asked she said she was looking for some, didn’t advise us if it was table service or not so we sat for another 5 until I still had to go and ask if I need to order myself or not. Not a good start. I ordered at the bar, no non alcoholic options only Heineken and my friend was pregnant so not a good option. Ordered food and it was amazing and came within good time (this is the only reason I would return)
During the meal I dropped my knife and asked the blonde lady for a spare one which she said she would get, i sat back down and it was another 5 minutes and she still hadn’t brought it back over to me, so I asked another staff member and they got me one instantly, 5 more minutes and I still hadn’t got the knife off the blonde lady and she didn’t know I had got a new one, she walked past and I said oh I’ve got a new knife, she wasn’t bothered and said oh I forgot (again, not good) the place wasn’t busy so that couldn’t of been an excuse.
A young lad, I’m guessing he was quite new, brought us our bill, planted the card machine in front of us and didn’t say a word, no thank you no nothing and the same as we left.

Hi Nicole; I’m really sorry you felt I was not bothered with your arrival.. I was quite busy dealing with other tables when you came in, and I thought I had said any of the high tables that were available, as all the lower tables were booked out. As regards to the menus, all of mine on my section seemed to have disappeared..As regards to the non alcoholic drinks, we do offer a good variety of soft drinks. I remember you asking for a clean knife, as you had dropped yours, I was on my way to getting you a clean one, then got called to do something else, I hadn’t forgotten, I was pleased that you had gotten a clean knife and I just tried to make light my lateness.... I can only apologise and thank you for your feed back, as it is not our intention for anyone to be unhappy with their visit with us. If you would like to speak to me personally, please call me on at the Rope andAnchor. Angela

31 people for 70th. Birthday party lunch
To help with pre-ordered the food however, there was only one person to serve us including, getting the drinks.
The lady who was serving us done as good a job as She possibly could but she needed some help to make the service reasonable. We had the starter at 2 pm and maincourse took until 4 pm to be served
The service was absolutely shocking and it was nothing to do with the lady who was serving us

Been 3 times now an various visits to give it a fair shot but every time it has been poor. The venue itself is lovely & the staff are friendly & helpful, but service is incredibly slow & you do feel neglected which is not what you expected for an expensive meal. We got a bottle of wine, a main, a side & 3 starters and it was £80! & I asked for the green beans.. I got a bowl of random boiled veg?
The food is fine, but it’s very expensive for basic pub food… some things can be tasty & others are terrible quality. I had the steak & ale pie & it was bone dry, just chunks of dry meat & pastry, as well as the garlic mushrooms which were very watery and bland.
The ambience is nice with the fire and the barn, but the lights flicker brighter/dimmer & it gave me a headache.
They stop serving food quite early, around 8/8.30 & although the website says 11pm close, they were cleaning around us at 9pm which just made us feel awkward & so we didn’t order another drink.
It’s fine, it’ll do as options in the area in walking distance are few, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there & will deffo just take advantage of the nights they have offers on instead…

A week or so after restrictions are lifted and we are eating outside with friends at the Rope and Anchor on the road to Dunham Massey. There are nice infra red heaters tucked into the tops of the umbrellas, and with the benefit of good coats, we enjoyed a couple of home made
pies, some steak and a salad. They were all very good and varied in price from £21.95 to £12.95, plus a couple of yummy pieces of cheesecake . As is the case at that time, there was a more limited range than usual but as we began to experience the recovery of eating out, it was a very positive meal and the company’s was good to!

Drove over 25 miniutes for a family lunch to be told "they ran out of prawns" which is what I really was looking forward to.
Then it took over 20 miniutes for our drinks to arrive.
We ordered our food (2 course lunch deal) and specifically asked to make sure our children's meal came with our starters and he was very hungry (3 years old).
The starters arrived (cold chicken), my mum's tandoori chicken bites had two chunks of chicken skin in the bucket 🤮.
No children's meal arrived after asking twice during the starter.
The starters were cleared after a while and still no children's meal!
We then waited over half an hour for our main and still no children's meal. My son was very unhappy by this point.
Main meals (6oz steak) came with chips and a pot of gravy??? Very strange as it states peppercorn sauce.
Sent this back. The steak was like eating an old leather shoe it was awful!!!
Just to make people aware, the play area for children is not on site it's across the car park so not safe for young ones as you have to walk over and stand with them whilst they play.
I will never go to this pub again. And others should just save their money and go somewhere else trust me!
On the way out all the chef's could be seen sat outside the kitchen doors smoking in plain view. (very unprofessional)

Went to eat here last night after a recommendation from a friend as a family of 5. My sons burger was pink in the middle and then other sons steak pie was freezing and I felt guilty that I had no other other food for my 1 year old daughter as I’m not sure the chicken nuggets were ok or were actually chicken, so she ended up having brioche and peas.
My cheese and onion pie was terrible literally like a brick of cheese and my husband ordered a sharing platter which looked like something of I’m a celebrity and was totally inedible..
The chef is constantly in and out of the kitchen and the wait for food is so long we should have known when we arrived as customers were all complaining about the wait.
We told the staff about our meal being quite possibly the worst food we’ve ever tasted and she could see everyone had left their food, she said she would tell the manager but the manager never came and we were made to pay.
I have Never done a review on here but felt I needed to warn others, believe me if your going to Dunham Massey for the lights with kids and want food first do not go here it’s absolutely terrible

Ordered the sirloin steak at £21.95, which was extremely poor; steak was difficult to cut with the steak knife and chewy and fatty. When we were asked if all was okay, we reported the issue. I had expected some sort of goodwill gesture, perhaps a discount or the cost of our drinks removed. But nothing. Chips seemed variable, some were not cooked properly which makes me wonder if some were reheated. Fish was decidedly average and a bit soggy. Unimpressed and overpriced. We won’t be going back.

Came here for my partners birthday lunch, we sat down and waited 15 minutes ....no sign of anyone asking us if we would like a drink. So we then had to ask ourselves.
Waited half an hour or more for 4 starters, which were mainly soup and halloumi fries etc so not sure where the wait was for that. Although I understand the restaurant system, and times and mains away etc, the server should always tell the customer that there is a wait on food so we are not wondering what is happening, we would of been happy if someone had mentioned this when we ordered.
There were no check backs on food starters or mains, no one asked if we wanted a drink, and there was no empty glasses being collected on our tables through out our time at the pub.
Waited 25 minutes for mains, the food was ok but the pork belly main was lacking in substance and the purée was just a sloppy mess and could of been presented a lot better.
All food came with out the tables being laid up with cuterley beforehand. Which is bad service and poor management.
I understand if the pub was busy but then you are aware of bookings etc so maybe in future rota staff on at the busy times and stagger bookings.
Would come back but maybe at a quieter time during the week, would not fine at the weekends here due to the lack of service from staff.
Needs better management. Not sure anyone knew what was going on.

We visited the restaurant today as part of my daughters birthday celebrations. We ordered a variety of food and drinks from the menu including children's and adults meals. When the drinks arrived one of the bottles of Appletizer had mould around the bottle neck. This was quickly replaced. I ordered a gluten free fish and chips but a non gluten free one arrived which was returned to the chef with a request for a GF version. After around 10 minutes I was told that they didn't have enough GF batter so I ordered and alternative. By the time it arrived everyone else in the party had finished their food. One of the children's baked beans arrived in a freezing cold pot, it had clearly missed its turn in the microwave! This was returned and a good 10-15 mins later a hot one was served. My daughter ordered cheese sauce with her cheese pie which consisted of what appeared to be melted stringy cheese the consistency of rubber. In general the portion sizes were small and the quality was more akin to a transport cafe than a Gastro Pub. While I was waiting for my alternative dish the waiters decided to have their food in the middle of the restaurant. While they were pleasant enough there was certainly a lack of interest or customer service. Its a shame as the restaurant was quite and some of the reviews said the food was very good but our overall experience was poor.

The atmosphere was lovely and the initial staff
member we came across was very helpful found us a table quickly.
We ordered a sharing board which came with some sort of loaded fries which included four chips and a tiny chunk of beef. We let this go as most of the food was good quality and we were starving.
Alongside the sharing board we ordered four different small plates, The small plates only had four items per dish which was perfectly fine but as a group of three ordering. It would have been good to have approx amount of people who should share each dish.
After eating our mains we ordered the cheeseboard when it came out it turned out it was the ‘wrong’ cheeseboard. We were given the cheeseboard from the set menu even though we have been ordering off the main menu the entire time so this could’ve easily been clarified by the restaurant staff. We sent back the first cheeseboard as it was the one from the set menu and included a fruit cake and chutneys rather than apples celery carrots and crackers. The cheeseboard didn’t include Brie which was specified on menu either.
We asked for this to be changed and when the cheeseboard came out again it included a smoked cheese something which is an acquired taste a blue cheddar. We asked again where was the Brie it was fine we just wanted to know Is that is something that we all liked. The waitress eventually came back to towels on the third occasion that they didn’t have bree and what cheese is good we prefer this could’ve easily been resolved early on.
This seems like a minor problem but it is something which could’ve easily been fixed with just some clear communication to the customer.
When we were encountering the issues with the cheese board the young waitress was lovely (if a little inexperienced) the senior (tall dark hair) was pulling her face and quite rude.
I would be hesitant to return.

Came here on Friday for lunch with my partner and children.
We’ve visited once before and it wasn’t great but thought we would give the place a second chance. And it is safe to say we will never be returning.
The food is mediocre.
However the service is the worst service I’ve ever seen in hospitality.
We sat down and my partner went to the bathroom, the young girl came over and asked us what we wanted to drink, I asked her to return as half the guest were not at the table.
The starters took about 20/25 minutes to arrive, yet given how quiet the place was this was getting on my nerves, both mains and desserts also took a ridiculous amount of time to arrive.
Through out the whole duration no one did a check back to see how our meals were.
The staff were all stood behind the bar chatting constantly, no attention paid to the customers at all, and not once were we offered any more drinks, we had to keep asking for stuff.
We arrived at 1pm, and we didn’t leave until 3.45pm. The service was that slow !!
The one thing that really bugged me the most and the one thing that was so unprofessional, was the fact that the staff brought over a card machine with a random amount in with out a receipt for us to check, when we asked for the bill. We then asked to split the bill in half and asked to see the receipt, which my partner noticed they had charged us 3 coffees instead of 2.
I asked for this to be taken off the bill, and was then told that we had to pay for it as they couldn’t take it off the bill and then they will refund us the amount to our card…..never heard so much SH*T in my life !
I told the girl to void it off and bring the bill back, which we were then told that because she wasn’t a manager she wouldn’t be able to void it off, yet both managers were stood at the host stand on phones.
Please avoid this place at all cost if you don’t want to be insulted with stupidity.
