We had a lovely lunch at the Romper yesterday. Although distancing was observed and there was a one way system the atmosphere was still very chilled.
When I booked it I hadn't realised that the meals would be subsidised (eat out to help out scheme), so the bill was half the price, even though the meals weren't expensive to start with.
Food was lovely too. I'd definitely come here again.

After a lovely winter walk we stopped at the dog friendly pub The Romper. We ordered the new chicken in a basket as well as the steak and red wine pie. The pie was on the generous side with plenty of steak and sauce it came with mash that was very creamy and light. The chicken in a basket was covered in batter and it seemed a little to to much for the size of the chicken apart from that the chicken was tasty with its compliment of keive sauce to pour over. Glad we tried it but would probably give it a miss if we ordered again .

The Romper has been a favourite pub of mine for many years and today was another enjoyable visit.
My friend & I made a reservation online and decided to redeem some Tesco Clubcard points against the bill.
The Romper has a spacious car park and is conveniently located to the major roads around the Airport.
Staff greeted us on arrival and checked our reservation, we were early and had a small wait for our table.
The pub has a lovely ambience with it’s open fires lit and feels like home from home.
Typically we opted for a Sunday roast complete with all the trimmings and plenty of gravy.
Food was not rushed and service was attentive, staff were very polite and friendly.
Two drinks, two mains and a desert all for £23 which was fantastic.

Very disappointed. Met an colleague for lunch. Service was terrible. The waitress’s attitude was awful.
We entered the pub and took a seat. She cane over and asked if we had been seated and we advise we just sat down to which she said well you should wait to be seated.
The drinks came and were flat so sent one back. Ordered lunch one meal came out and they got the order wrong with the second meal so I had finished mine before my colleagues meal had come out.
I ordered a chicken and chorizo toastie. The chicken was so chewy and not edible. Had to remove off the bread.really disappointed and to make things worse we are regular visitors and the waitress actually sees us in the facility regularly
Not sure I will be returning

I have been a regular customer of the romper for 20 years. A great homely place for airport staff regulars. I personally feel over the years that the staff and atmosphere has been spot on, however the food can be a bit hit and miss. The Didsbury and The Swan at Winwick are generally more consistent in that respect.
My friend and I both ordered a signature roast. The menu description and a £14/15 price gives a high expectation. The lamb meal was fine but unfortunately my beef was tough and only two thin slices, which is poor value for money. The stuffing was cold and the Yorkshire felt like it had been on the side for ages. The presentation wasn’t great, maybe the plates are too big. It just looked thrown on. On the first check back the waiter brought me out another piece of beef, unfortunately it was equally as chewy. Certainly not slow cooked for the length of time on the description. The waiter was very attentive and he changed it for the only immediate alternative which was pork and that was fine. I can’t fault the front of house staff. Unfortunately the kitchen side was a disappointment again.
We were also snarled at on the way out by another customer as apparently going the wrong way out of the one way system, we didn’t even notice.

Dropped into this place for a bit of brunch to have just a little more time with my family after my nieces wedding the day before. Dropping in with 17 of us without reservation could of been an issue but the staff at romper were brilliant hosts. With numerous requests to change the standard breakfasts and with a vegan in our company, all food came out correct hot and well made. The pub is a great comfortable environment for families with younger children as there is plenty of space and large tables to accommodate. Would definitely stop by again when in the area. Particular thanks to Tom and Sarah who were super patient and friendly with us all.

Our family of 5, including 3 sons aged 16, 18 and 21, enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Romper on the last day of our trip to England. We decided on this pub mainly because it is walking distance from the hotel we stayed at near the airport. All of the dishes we ordered were very good, and the service was personal and top notch.

We went to this restaurant the night before catching a flight to Kos. We stayed at the nearby Premier Inn and even though I'd rang the hotel and asked about meals etc and was told we could book tables for food when we booked in , when we got there the restaurant and bar was closed except for breakfast. We were offered a take away type menu and bottled beer and soft drinks that could be eaten in our room, not what we were told over the phone. I googled what places to eat were nearby and we saw The Romper was only a few minutes drive away. We couldn't have made a better choice, what an absolute gem this restaurant/pub is. They have very good safety precautions in place and all staff were wearing masks. The food was amazing and good value for money, Rob was our waiter and he was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go there again I can't recommend it highly enough.

Came here on the advice of our hotel - just wanted some solid tasty food and wasn’t disappointed. Whitebait starter was great and steak main cooked perfectly. Service was brilliant - the barman/waiter Tom was attentive without being fussy and food came out quickly. A recommended pit stop.

Been today, fancied a Sunday roast, was advised that they'd sold out of beef but would do us a deal with the beef on the bone, we accepted this. The beef was absolutely delicious, there was that much on the bone and food on the plate that a little was left because we were full up, we couldn't even manage a pudding 😥
There was a slight hiccup with the bill, but it was all sorted out with no hassle and everyone was having a laugh about it, you don't have to kick off if something's wrong we are all human and mistakes happen and it certainly hasn't put us of coming back. I would recommend here 100% as the staff are amazing and the food is second to none 🙂😊

Booked for 6 on there online website. When we arrived we were greeted by the barman who took our drink orders. Out table was read, we were informed there was no rush to be seated. This did not bother us as we were happy having a drink and a good catch up at the bar. Starters consisted of Stilton and peppercorn mushrooms and hand battered chicken goujohns. Main meals mainly consisted of the Sunday Roast - Turkey, Slow cooked lamb shoulder and one slow cooked rib of beef. All the food was piping hot and well presented, tasted great and was high quality. Our waitress asked if we required any sauces to go with our meal, cranberry is a must with turkey. The puddings went down a treat Bakewell tart. Followed by coffees which were served with a small short bread a lovely finishing touch. This was our first time visiting and we will definitely come back again soon.

The Romper provided light lunch for a party of 44 which was perfect for our requirements following 2 group tours of the nearby Amazon Fulfillment Centre. Manager Thomas was very helpful in agreeing my suggestion of a limited menu for our group in exchange for pre notification of individual selections and payment. Delicious maple roasted vegetable soup and a range of sandwiches or jacket potato, served by friendly staff. Very satisfied.

It felt very safe visiting the Romper today after lockdown. You enter the pub via the side door near the smoking area. There's hand gel on the wall in the area you wait for your table to be allocated. All the staff are wearing masks and there's a perspex screen on the bar area. The tables for eating at are spread out. With the tables that aren't being used acting as barriers for the one way system around the dining area. There are markers on the floor at the safe distancing. The menus are paper to be only used once and then they are thrown away when you've finished with them. The cutlery comes in an earthenware jar with paper napkins and any unused cutlery is washed and not reused. The salt, pepper and vinegar are in small sachets. Again any left over are thrown away. There's a staff member constantly going round spraying the tills, tables, door handles. It's better to book in advance and at 4.30 on a Tuesday afternoon it was busier than I expected. Myself and my friend felt very safe at all times.
The food was delicious. We both had chicken, mushroom and leek pie in a white creamy sauce with a delicious small jug of gravy. The glazed seasonal veg were delicious. I wished I'd just had extra vegetables and no chips. If you knew me then the vegetables must have been outstanding. Afterwards I had my very favourite dessert. Salted caramel sundae. A delicious glass filled with chocolate and vanilla clotted cream ice cream with chunks of chocolate brownie pieces, vanilla cheesecake, whipped cream and a delicious drizzle of salted caramel sauce. The staff couldn't have done enough for us and it was fantastic to finally get back. To exit the romper you leave by the door at the front of the pub. Taking you past the newly repainted and repaired lion standing proudly on its plinth. As yet unnamed. Well done to Romper team you did yourselves proud today. I'll definitely be coming back.

Booked a table at the Romper because it is close to the airport. We had been before when we were dropping family members at the airport. All of us were really impressed with the food and the service. The pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere on both occasions we visited the food was delicious and the staff really friendly and efficient. I just wish it was more local to us so we could go more often.
