I have been to this restaurant a few times over the past year, and while I have always had minor complaints, I have never mentioned them because I want to support local businesses. However, my experience tonight was so disappointing that I feel compelled to...write this review.
I ordered the prawns in pepper and garlic sauce with extra sauce. When it arrived, the sauce was tasteless and watery. I mentioned this to the owner/manager, who did not apologize or offer to replace the dish. Instead, he brought me salt, soy sauce, and fish sauce to add flavor. I was shocked by his dismissive attitude, and I felt that he was not respecting my feedback. I mentioned this again and told him that I had a theory as to why the sauce was like that. He immediately said that the chef never added water. This was very telling, as it's exactly what he was thinking and exactly what had happened. I told him so, and he said he'd have a word with the chef, who, surprise surprise, denied it. I said I was disappointed.
He asked me if I wanted a vanilla rum as I ordered the bill. I said sure. He offers this to everyone and has done so every time I've been here to every table. When I got the bill, there was no mention of the tasteless meal. The free rum he hands out to every customer was supposed to be enough to make up for the tasteless meal. I told him the rum was an insult, and he told me he made it especially for me. Utter gaslighting nonsense. We had a discussion about how he makes this rum in the months previously, and he told me he makes it by buying huge bottles of the cheapest rum on the island and adding flavoring to it. He obviously forgot that we had this discussion. It's totally insulting and a terrible way to run a business.
I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food i had was bland, and the owner/manager's explanation for why the sauce was watery was not credible..
There are other Thai restaurants in Grand Baie, such as Aroi Thai, where the customer is respected. I would recommend trying there.More
