Maybe the staff is not super friendly, but the classic Austrian dishes make up for that. Had a salad with Tafelspitz (veal), Wiener Schnitzel and Strudel. How classic can you get? Wouldn't mind having dinner here again. Nice selection of wines and obstler. Not the cheapest option in this tourist district.

We selected the tagesmenu - a three course meal with beer and wine to match each course. The food was very good and the matching drinks excellent. Service was friendly and professional. This is the second time we've eaten there and it's consistently good.

Really nice meal, we had goulash and veal ball - which was like a burger but with mash instead of a bun. Both delicious as was the bread and butter, all washed down with excellent Austrian beer.

Good service, helpful waiter, food is well prepared and you got plenty of it on the plate; vine is good. We did not try the desserts.

This restaurant is truly a gem. The food is wonderfully Austrian and definitely Viennese. When you enter, it is like stepping back to another century. Everything we ordered was extremely good. Find this restaurant, and I know you will want to return again. Definitely call ahead for a reservation.

Enjoyed an evening meal with good local dishes especially enjoyed the calves liver and goose leg. Desserts were a little disappointing, strudel not that tasty. Service was a little slow but the restaurant was very busy. Tables were in alcoves and were shared with other diners.

With no particular plan for our evening meal we happened across this tiny restaurant (or so we thought but didn't realise it extended to the rear of the building) and we were so glad we did. The meal was delicious and a clever twist on traditional Austrian food. We were quickly seated and the bread just kept coming. The menu... More

We chose this restaurant based upon our local guide's recommendation and we we not disappointed. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and spoke English well. The ambience was great. The food was very tasty, with generous portions. The veal schnitzel was excellent. I definitely recommend Witwe Bolte to American tourists.

Stayed just around the corner and was delighted we chose to ignore bad reviews and go and have a delicious supper sitting in the courtyard on a warm late summers evening. Great service, delicious bread and a scrummy schnitzel served with a beautifully dressed green salad. Also had a lovely dry Austrian white wine.

We had 3 courses from the regular and monthly prix fixe. The waiters were friendly and helpful, especially with my weak German and my Japanese friend's hesitant English. Well chosen wine and beer selection. The Tafelspitz (featured main) a thick slice of boiled beef was very tender

Description
Most Welcome!

To the "six legged lion inn", nowadays turned into a well known restaurant, the "Witwe Bolte". The old fashioned restaurant is situated in the famous Spittelberg district. The baroque building carries the inscription "Durch dieses Tor im Bogen ist Kaiser Josef II geflogen, 1778" which translates to ,,through this archway emperor Josef II was thrown out", a remainder of one of his infamous and notorious visits to the pub.

Please enjoy our delicious Austrian specialities, our seasonal delicacies and our vegetarian viands. Some declare a gourmet heaven, where you can feel the historic atmosphere of the Spittelberg area while sitting calmly in our wonderful and well kept garden or inside in one of our rustic parlors and cozy snuggeries. A glass of our carefully selected red and white wines from all important Austrian wine regions completes every dinner and makes it an unforgettable experience.
Bolte's restaurant

The atmosphere in our main dining area can be described as typically viennese, with comfortably cushioned wooden chairs and benches, small intimate tables and lush decorated walls. Life is reduced to the simple joy of delicious food like a juicy Schweinsbraten (pork roast) or the famous Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese escalope), served with a glass of good wine from the Wachau region. You can experience our affection for detail in our various snuggeries. Please choose between the Lehrer Lampel Stube (schoolmaster Lampel parlor), the Rabenstube (raven parlor) or the Schneiderstube (dressmaker parlor), each referring to a character of the famous author Wilhelm Busch, as well as the Wilhelm Busch Stuberl
