...and friends (who live in Vienna) took us here. Queue was out of the door when we got there but soon went down as we appeared to judge it perfectly. Sat near the front door in the corner by the window but it did take a while to get served. They did seem to be quite busy. One of our... More

We went to Schnitzelwirt once. The highlight is the huge portions which come in rather low prices. The fries tasted like those of any fast food restaurant. The place had an unpleasant smell of cigar smoke.

This was one of the best eating experiences of our visit. It is the real deal. We shared a table with some locals and they were completely surprised when my teenage daughter could finish the portion (2 huge pieces of schnitzel, very tasty). Yes, it was full, noisy, smokey and busy, but you can get the real deal here. Well... More

This place is awesome. We went on our last night and had incredible schnitzels. The place was absolutely packed with locals. Great atmosphere and great night!

This place. We adored it. It was jammed packed with locals when we walked in, and the air is thick with cigarette smoke. Everyone smoked, even the waitresses! I certainly understand that this is a turnoff for most people, but for me, it just lended more authenticity. It's communal dining, so you will likely sit with strangers. Another huge appeal... More

Make sure you have cash (they don't take cards, but are happy to point you at the cash machine 100 metres or so to the left out of the door). It is VERY popular, and you might have to share a table. But that's how to get new friends. When I said "be hungry" I forgot to say "very".

Lively, busy cafe/ restaurant serving a range of affordable local dishes. The portions are massive, the service is rather eccentric. Definitely worth a visit.

We were really looking forward to this dinner as read great reviews, but the whole experience was truly HORRIBLE. We arrived, the place was full of thick smoke.. and as entered, no one would acknowledge we had arrived. NOONE even said hello or asked if we wanted a table. Fully ignored us. We waited for about 5 minutes at the... More

The restaurant was very busy when we visited but I'd highly recommend stopping in if you are looking for schnitzel and beer. You might wait a bit for a table but the environment is much more fast paced than other dining experiences we had in Austria so you'll be seated quickly. If you are a small party you may end... Staying in Neubau

Neighbourhood Profile
Neubau
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
