This is one popular place, expect a wait at the door but its worth your while. The Schnitzel are huge and really tasty. Don't think you'll have a private dinner for 2, all tables are pretty big so once a seat or two open up its commune style - but great to meet fellow travelers this way. Definitely worth a... More

A good, true traditional viennese restaurant, you ask for turkey schnitzel, you will get 2 huge slices that are bigger than the plate. Both of them simmering Hot, greasy, fresh and very tasty. The side salad made of sauerkraut and other stuff was good too. Staff were in a hurry but rather friendly. The whole place is packed with locals... More

The famous Schnitzelwirt is located in the hip 7th district. Reservation recommended, at least on weekends. It's a packed place and don't expect a romantic candle light dinner atmosphere. There are different forms of Schnitzel (traditional, filled with cheese, rolled, etc.) for a very good price. While we were there locals and tourists were maybe like 50/50. It's well possible... My partner and I walked in around 8pm and asked for a table for 2 in the non-smoking section. The restaurant was overflowing so we thought our chances were slim. However, a friendly waiter asked us to wait around 5 minutes, and then promptly came and seated us on a share table with a nice Austrian family. Our waiter gave... More

If you're hungry, this is the right place, you can order schnitzel which is an austrian speciality and believe me you will eat until explosion, moreover the price is very interesting. However the staff won't try to help you if you don't speak german and the smile is apparently an option not included.

After having been shopping in the Mariahilferstrasse my boyfriend and I decided to go and eat a schnitzel. The waiter was nice to us, but we realised that every time he attended a table of tourists or "non German speakers" he would take advantage of this situation. If they ordered tap water (free) he would bring soda or fanta. He... More

Deep underground, lacking true ambiance, this restaurant, although popular, is highly overrated. The food is average, better can be had in any German restaurant in Germany.

Based on the trip advisor reviews we were so excited to go here, and maybe it was our own fault for not making a reservation I don't know? We walked in and hovered a little while, then we walked through the restaurant but the only table they had was reserved. So we then went back to the bar area and... More

Well this place is right down the street from my first home and that was over 50 years ago. I remember the dining room with long tables where customers sat together and became acquainted over a delicious supper of schnitzel! Now in the states, I prepare my schnitzel as close to Wien's as I can, with lemon of course!

We found this place quite by accident and we went twice in one week. It is a great place for the food and its authentic atmosphere. The staff is pleasant and were more than happy to help with the menu, even in English!

Staying in Neubau

Neighbourhood Profile
Neubau
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
