Visited the cafe today. Coffee was not as hot as you might expect, taking into account the price and the small cup. Cannot recommend this place.

Nothing more than what is written in the subjects review line. If there is one cafe on the planet that one must visit in their lifetime, it is this one. The elegance and Viennese savoir vivre permeate the this whole location in its entirety: the location, architecture and design, the staff themselves and the quality of the food. Cakes are... More

Wonderful preservation of a decor, custom and service from a past era, and the cakes and pastries were superb. A must for any visitor to Vienna.

From flying all over the world I can say that the value for money here is amazing! So many different choices for so many needs. The waiters were polite and extremely helpful with advice and personal recommendations. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful even though it was busy. I can't wait to visit again!

I arrived in Wien early in the evening and ad this Cafe was close to my hotel I went in. Their menu is wide enough, from small bites to bigger main courses, you definitely can have a three course meal also here. I had their warm beef toast, nothing exciting, but with creme fraiche very good. I did not have... More

We had some good desserts in this magnificent place enjoying the live pianist. Tho it sounds really good, there was something not quite there for me, the dessert I had was good, don't get me wrong, but not on par with the rest of the place, and certainly just on par with the food in Vienna, but the prices were above... Visited this café in March 2017 and its definitely one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever seen in a restaurant or a café! It transports you back 100 years when you enter the café! They also have amazingly delicious pastries and really good coffee. Price wise the café is not exorbitant and rates are comparable to other cafés... More

The schnitzel is amazing, coffee is robust & strong and the apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce is the cherry on the cake. Beautiful, traditional interior - worth the wait in line.

Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
