Joined the queue for this must visit café. Only 7 couples in front of us at the time therefore were shown to a table within 15 minutes. Great interior, old fashion worldy. Smart waiters. Cakes and pastries well worth looking at. Japanese, Chinese pop in just to take pictures. Others as well. My wife enjoyed an apple strudel, I a... More

If you appreciate places with a history you cannot afford to miss the experience of enjoying a Cafe Melange here at the Cafe Central where great thinkers sat and planned changes for the world. The atmosphere here is magic and the apple strudel is to die for.

Cafe Central is a must do for something while visiting. Its history is intertwined with Vienna. The ambience is 'Third Man Theme'. Piano in the background was Humphrey Bogart. Food and drink clearly Viennese. Facility is used to a lot of through put. Would be enhanced if they dimmed the lights for dinner, and slowed the service down. Great place... More

The place and the architecture are beautiful inside and outside. Food is very good - the Wiener Schnitzel is gigantic, so there was not much space for dessert so I only had one millefeullies with cream and strawberries, that was excellent! Service is friendly - Viennese friendly... The cafe is very popular with tourists, therefore try to make a reservation... More

We really enjoyed our visit here. The place was packed full when we arrived mid afternoon yet they soon found us a table for 6 almost immediately. The cakes were amazing & we found it difficult to choose! There was a pianist playing which gave a lovely feel to the place & the atmosphere was buzzing. Prices seemed reasonable considering... Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
