My wife and I had a very good meal here and at a good price. 41 Euros for two meals, two desserts and a bottle of wine. Hope to go back prior to going home to England. Sorry we did not take a camera.

Ate hear while staying at the Hilton Danube. It is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Thought it was good authentic Austrian food for a reasonable price. Typical neighborhood joint.

Gasthaus Mehler is the real deal - not your typical tourist trap! Schnitzel and other viennese delights can be had in an authentic atmosphere. The food is far above average. A daily special with a drink will set you down ~10€ including a soup. In summer the garden is very nice!

a rare spot to experience the very authentic dishes of viennese / bohemian cooking culture. run by family members only, garden seating outside available (summer season), beer imported from Budvar, good choice of wine, reasonable prices, gorgeous servings. smoker / non smoker separated, WIFI available.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Waterfront Hotel, which is on the same street, and we happened upon this restaurant in an area where restaurants are relatively scarce. We had breakfast here one morning and dinner on one occasion also. Its very traditional in layout, with a large courtyard with open-air seating. The food is hearty fare, and... More

Gasthaus Mehler is across the street from the tramlines that run parallel to the Danube. We spotted it as our bus drove past on Handelskai returning from a trip to Bratislava, Slovakia. Since it was walking distance from the Hilton Vienna Danube we were staying at, we gave it a try that night. They have a small outdoor beer garden... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
