Like most things in Vienna, the Café Hofburg has the old charm of imperial Austria with a small town feel. Set in the courtyard of the Hofburg itself, under Sissi's old imperial lodgings, this café offers many of the same staples found in most of Vienna's cafés, but at surprisingly affordable prices. I didn't take long to decide on my... More

First taste of this classic dish in Vienna and it did not disappoint. Great spot to sit outside and people watch. Lovely interior with a surprise or two when you use the toilets. Will go back to try more of the cake selection and have another hot chocolate with rum.

Was attending a confernce within the hofburg conference centre and the cafe is of a very good location to it. Ordered soup and schnitzel for lunch and it was tasty! Good place to rest your feet but do expect to wait in the queue for a bit!

The restaurant is in the palace complex so it is very convenient to walk from one museum to the other and stop for coffee or lunch. The food was very tasty, coffee excellent and the staff, very friendly. I will recommend this place to any one who is sight seeing in the vicinity. This is next to the Sisi museum... More

What a surprise to find an outstanding cafe in the heart of the tourist filled Hofburg Palace area. This cafe serves Landtmanns pastries, a cafe also very highly rated on Tripadvisor. The inside atmosphere is classy, and the service is top notch; very attentive. The entree menu items featured all the standard Viennese fare. I had a nice sausage platter... More

Typical Austrian café. Being so central, next to the Spanish Riding School it can get busy but once seated the service was good - as we found in all Austrian cafes and restaurants so not sure what some of the complaints are about in the Vienna reviews.

Not fancying the idea of queuing for ages at one of the more hyped Vienna cafes (Hotel Sacher or Cafe Demel) we elected to try the traditional Vienna cafe experience here and were not disappointed. We did queue for around 10 minutes but service was swift and efficient so the queue was short and constantly moving. While not one of... More

Have been to Cafe Hofburg many times over our three visits to Vienna. The cafe has an old fashioned charm about it and the service is impeccable. The cafe is close to the Spanish Riding School and the Imperial Palace. The goulash soup and the apple strudel are highly recommended. Yum! Make sure you have a good appetite when you... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
