This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It was literally steps from the hotel. We are nonsmokers, so we sat inside. It was quiet and cozy as there was only one other occupied table inside. Most of the outside tables were occupied by what looked...More

We enjoyed a glass of wine, the beef goulash and Wienerschnitzel at this restaurant. We sat outside and had great service. The schnitzel was a generous portion and delicious served with a berry compote. Reasonably priced. A good meal!

Located next to the oldest church in Vienna and only 100 metres from our hotel, Salzamt was a great find. Initially stopped for a quenching beer when we first arrived and were very impressed by the staff so came back for dinner. The menu is...More

After discovering that you need a reservation at many restaurants nearby, we were lucky to be seated in this one. It turns out stumbling onto this place was a great thing. Our waiter was very helpful explaining and translating the German hand-written menu, and the...More

Tasty food - we got the beef goulash+spatzle and potato pierogi. Superlative service. Good house red. What more do you need? :)

The food was incredible! The stuffed cabbages were a bit salty, but nothing too unmanageable. The rest of it, including herring and drinks, were delicious. The atmosphere was nice - not formal but not informal, a perfect balance between the two where travelers and returnees...More

Restaurant Salzamt served some good authentic Austrian cuisine. The restaurant can get quite crowded so it might be a wise option to prebook. We had some good schnitzels and strudel here. The choice and collection of wine was good too. Overall a nice place to...More

Description
You can find the Salzamt in the heart of the ,Bermuda Triangle'. It has been said that the Salzamt was the starting point of the Viennese Nightlife area (Bermuda Dreieck). The architect Herman Czech created this elegant and functional but playful space in 1983. White table cloths stretch throughout the dining area surrounded by wooden benches and Art - Deco chandeliers. The bar tempts with dimed lights and leather sofas to lounge in, creating a feeling of timelessness. On the daily handwritten menu one can find bistrot classics such as Vitello Tonnato or Beef Tatare but Viennese specialities like veal ,Wiener Schnitzel', Tafelspitz, diverse Gulash's as well international and eastern European dishes. There is a wide variety of Austrian and international wines with focus on the Bründlmayer in Kamptal. The beer selection features Viennese pils, Czech beer and white beer. Further fruit juices, fine spirits and local schnaps are on the drinks menu. In summer you can enjoy the outside seating on the calm and charming Ruprechtsplatz next to the oldest church in Vienna overlooking the Danube canal. Until 1824 the Salzamt was located here. The salt office was the salt taxing authority of the Habsburg monarchy. Today Salzamt is known as a meeting point for the arts and media scene and other luminaries, who enjoy this unpretentious place. If you want to dine and drink in a cozy atmosphere the Salzamt will take care of you.
