Awesome dinner- I had veal schnitzel and my wife had pork knuckle- both delicious! Dinner and a bottle of great wine was 65 Euro. It's downstairs about 1 1/2 levels with brick domed ceilings. The menu says the site has been around since the 1400s- how cool is that?! Staff was attentive and friendly. We arrived prior to the place... More

One of our regular haunts and always good to take friends. Typical local cuisine and excellent food though service can be hit and miss depending on who is on.

We were very lucky that this place reopened after a refurb in time to visit at the beginning of our holiday. The service, food an beer is all exceptional. The portion sizes are huge and as with a lot of traditional Austrian food meat heavy. Great. We Will definitely be back. Maybe needed some music although we spotted speakers so... More

We ate here in November 2016 and managed to get a table without making a reservation. This seemed like a very popular place in the main part of town and didn't come across as touristy at all. It seemed popular with the locals too with several parties coming in only to share some wine or beers. Note that it could... More

We visited in November and gorged ourselves on the best pork knuckle ever! Fabulous food, fabulous service and a fabulous find! We were so glad we stumbled upon this restaurant during our trip. Just perfect.

We visited this restaurant on the last day of our trip. They managed to squeeze the three of us in and it was outstanding. The decoration was very Austrian and beautiful. The customer service was the best I've come across in a long time. There were plenty of choices for beer and the food was out of this world. Great... More

The restaurant is downstairs in a room like a cellar. Very cool and trendy. Food was very good and the staff were super. Definitely worth a visit.

London. Florence. Rome. Berlin. Paris. If it is a major European city, I have probably been there, and I have probably enjoyed the best the city has to offer in food, and I am pleased to say that Vienna deserves a place on this list for this restaurant alone. We came here for an early dinner our first night in... More

The Melker Stiftskeller is part of the Melkerhof in Vienna's Schottengasse 3 in the first district. A certificate from 1629 proves that there was a wine-cellar connected with the Melkerhof already at that time. In addition it confirms the right of the Abbey of Melk to store and sell wine from the abbey's wineyards.
The Melker Stiftskellers fine cuisine developed out of this wine-cellar.
Today we concentrate on traditional and fresh food, our speciality of the house, the roasted pork knuckle, is served for almost 400 years now.

The old cellar vault offers seating for 300 persons and therefor is perfect for larger groups, private partys and buisness events.

In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
