Whilst the service at this establishment is warm and friendly the food leaves a lot to be desired. Japanese cuisine which is renown for fitness and subtlety of flavor has been completely massacred by the chef. The teriyaki chicken can swimming in an overly salty sauce and the unagi had a rubbery consistency. The tendon came with soggy tempura and... More

I went to the restaurant twice while I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. I have requested non-meat meals, though the meat dish was served (Matsukaze yaki). The quality of the cuisine was acceptable, but not well-balanced with the price, it could be more authentic. Please do not serve sauteed bean sprouts as a side dish in Kaiseki course,... More

We live here in Vienna and decided to spend our 25th anniversary there. The service was nice but the quality of food was poor and not worth the price. We were both very disappointed by our experience and will not recommend this restaurant to any of our friends in the local or international community. We had eaten there several times... More

The quality of food was good, nevertheless it was a bit pricey regarding service atention. For Classical Japanese food and a cozy place is excellent. If you are looking for something trendy or original I wouldn't go there.

There aren't many places to go for good sushi in Vienna and that means that Unkai can charge what they like. It's Nobu prices with Yo Sushi food. It's totally fine but nothing at all exciting. Service was slow and there were only around three other tables in for dinner. Service was friendly and the staff cheerful but not fast.... More

We were staying at the Grand Wien Hotel and although we were booked at another restaurant we looked at the reviews and went to Unkai. However the service was extremely slow and it took more than an hour for our food to arrive although the restaurant was not very busy. The food was fairly good but considering it to be... More

Good food, good service, but totally overpaid, with good other options in Vienna, same quality and half the price...strange: they give you simple wooden chopsticks like in a fast food Chinese restaurant and not any nice looking ones like they offer in an expensive Asian restaurant...

The Japanese Restaurant Unkai is a special example of exquisite service and fascinating delicacies of the Japanese kitchen. Dishes like Sushi and Sashimi are prepared on the highest level, the Teppanyaki grill being the most popular way of preparation. Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
