The Stiftskeller is a wonderful place in a wonderful building. The staff is extremely nice and service minded. I had a Parmesan soup as starter and it was great, the filet of beef I had as main course was top class, very tender and fried exactly as I wished. What really is worth mentioning is the desert, it was with... More

Whenever we come to Salzburg we eat at the Peterskeller. Even if one doesn't want to eat here the place alone is worth a visit. But since you should come here to eat you wouldn't be disappointed. The kitchen is rich without being boring and the staff is very friendly. One of the oldest restaurants and when you leave it... More

The décor and the food was superb; however, the staff come across rude and better than you. I was really not impressed by the quality of service and think this restaurant could be amazing with a management/staff overhaul.

For vegetarians like us, this was a perfect place to grab a bite. We had this place recommended by a couple of our friends. The soups and appetizers were really very good and I would highly recommend visiting St. Peter Stiftskeller.

Wonderful experience, food, and ambience. Our visit was on a warm June evening and long shirt sleeves were a bit much, as was a tie, antique buildings and above average warmth made the evening a little steamy...but worth repeating. The music was great as we worked through the excellent courses, the only (and slight) concern would be the waitstaff being... More

We were given a recommendation to go here. I am a very picky eater so I wasn't sure. But I was intrigued by the age and the history of the place. I am so glad we went. It is the best restaurant I have ever been to. The restaurant is as cozy and charming as you would expect for a... More

We saved this restaurant for our last day there. Its totally touristy and not at all where the locals would go but its the oldest restaurant in Europe, you have to try it. It is pricey but it was worth it not because of the food but because of the restaurant itself is so full of history. Inside was quant... More

This place was fantastic. I was a little worried it would be touristy with subpar food, but luckily, it was far from that. The entertainment, food, and atmosphere were all very enjoyable. I saw people in business casual to dressy attire, but it wasn't formal. Booked months in advance to secure reservation.

Description
History, gastronomy, culture and civilised social life come together in the elegant surroundings of the St Peter Stiftskeller, the best address in Salzburg, Mozart's sublime home city. Inside the walls of a Benedictine abbey at the heart of Salzburg's colourful Old Town, the Stiftskeller has been a popular meeting place for princes and bishops, citizens and merchants for more than a millennium. A documented visit by Charlemagne in 803 is its claim to be Europe's oldest hostelry. More than a restaurant, the Stiftskeller remains Salzburg's rendez-vous of choice - a place for good eating and drinking, of course, but also for entertaining, exchanging ideas and being seen. Townsfolk and tourists mingle with travelling celebrities, gourmets and business folk. Splendid private rooms host fashionable receptions. Its location between the Cathedral and the Festival Theatre puts the Stiftskeller at the centre of everything, in this intimate and cultured small city. The arcaded inner court is the heart of the Stiftskeller with a refreshing atmosphere of an interior garden. A welcome refuge from the heat of summer in the city, it's a place to relax after shopping or sightseeing, for a light supper before the opera or a late bite afterwards. International stars come and go during Salzburg's summer festival, and no one makes a fuss. For a private party or a group celebration, the Stiftskeller has ten beautiful private rooms varying in style and size to suit any event from a catwalk fashion show to a more intimate family gathering. The Baroque Hall comes with full regalia of gilded stucco. Other rooms offer more restrained elegance, cosy wooden panelling, rough and rustic stonework or a more edgy modern decorative scheme.
