Limited menu choices but impeccable entrees served fresh & with all local catches. The Plaice fish was my favorite!

This place is a deli with a restaurant next door. We stopped in the deli the first time on a Food Walk and went back several more times during our visit to Reykjavik. We tasted several lovely local cheeses (Gouda, blue cheese, cheddar) and several local meats (lamb, horse, beef). We also tasted their gluten free chocolate cake which is... More

What a cozy find! Food, service, atmosphere made for one of our favorite dining experiences. You must have the Icelandic cheese plate. The lamb and whale were spectacular.

The reviews were very good but it was just ok. We were not unhappy with our meal but we were not very excited about it either. The service was good.

Yes it's expensive but so is every eating place in Reykjavik. We discovered Ostabudin on our first night. We tried a few other places during our week's stay but nothing compared and so went back on our last night. Highly recommended!

The main dining room is very small, but there is a larger one downstairs. They only take reservations until 6:30pm/18:30 and it is first come, first served after that. The restaurant was never full while we were there on a Saturday night. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. The cheese platter was great, especially when we mixed... More

The restaurant is a short walk from the cathedral in Reykjavik city center. The restaurant is full of locals and that's what got us to stop in the first place. It is small but quaint and serve high quality dishes. Just like with everything else in Iceland, it has "Iceland Price" so be prepared. Our entire dinner cost about $150... More

Great food, wine and straff. A smaller, cosy place with beautiful fish plates with wine that were matched to the dish

Description
Food connoisseurs and other gastronomes have ever since the year 2000 slipped into our basement during lunch hour to feast on various delicacies. But of course everyone knows that because ever since the restaurant opened for business it has been the least kept secret in the area.

Ostabuðin has truly been an oasis on Skolavorðustigur because we have tried our best to offer a wide varaity of fresh and curious products which have tickled our patrons taste buds and in turn trickled salivating reflexes in the city center.

Even though we have taken some pride in the queue that has formed outside our entrance every single day during lunch break for the past 15 years we have finally expanded our premises. Thus we can now welcome our patrons from dawn til dusk and offer them a variety of fish and meat dishes which we have refined with passion. Of course there is also a lot of cheese on the menu and now we can also serve wine with our fare.

Our daily specials always include both a fish dish and a soup during lunch hour on weekdays. Do not hesitate to ask what is on offer today. Also, our seafood soup never disappoints.

Our guests might have to share tables during the lunch hour rush but who knows – maybe you will make new friends.

Bon appetit, Joi.
