Excellent breakfast crepes and coffee. They ran out of self serve coffee to complete our order so they gave us an Americana coffee while we waited for them to brew more. They then made an error and only gave us one breakfast crepe instead of...two. They immediately made the second one apologizing and then gave us a free cookie!More

I came here specifically for the chocolate cake - a friend told me that it was the best in the world. I was not disappointed! Light and fluffy, a great balance of cake and frosting. The lovely owner shared that it was an old family...recipe and it is something special - worth a trip here alone. The cafe is gorgeously decorated and has a lovely, warm vibe - very welcoming and friendly. All the food looked great and the cake was divine.More

This was our 3rd visit as we had previously been 7 years ago on a previous visit. The cauliflower soup was excellent and the apple crumble was outstanding. The decor is quite unique and very different from what you would find anywhere else. Great service...and a really good menu. We will be back before we leave for home in 2 days.More

Very quaint cafe....service was a bit dodgy though...the waiter was not very friendly and did not like that we had pushed to tables together to accommodate the 6 of us. The food was just okay and overpriced.

Located in downtown Reykjavik, right now the street from the giant church. It is an orange building with outdoor seating. Inside, it's adorably decorated. I ordered a hot chocolate and it was delicious, came out to $5.00 (US) which is comparable to Starbucks, but it...was a small serving. I asked for a to go cup so that I could take mine on the go! Loved it!More

With somewhat picky American teen eaters, we needed a place where the whole family would be satisfied. This was it! The crepes and grilled cheese sandwiches were excellent, and the tomato soup incredible. We LOVED the quirky decor. Clearly the owner has a Flintstones fixation,...which was really funny (I grew up on those cartoons in the USA in the '70s). It was also really LGBTQ friendly in various decor, which we appreciated. We found seating upstairs on sofas and comfy chairs. But perhaps best of all was the resident cat. After 10 days away from home, we were missing our three flerkens, so getting a chance to cuddle him made our entire day! My only caveat is that it's a popular place that can get tremendously busy. So don't count on getting a table (especially for larger groups) if you go at regular mealtimes. Make a reservation or expect a wait. (But it's worth it.)More

Visited Babalu's July 21 and really enjoyed the tomato soup and grilled cheese combo. The giant cookie is amazing and the perfect ending to the best tomato soup I've ever eaten.

First eatery we stopped at in Reykjavik. Had lasagne, salad. Was very tasty and nicely presented. Weather was sunny so ate on the top outside decking area. Enjoyed this lunch.

Wonderful little cafe, part self serve, informal, welcoming and cosy. Throwback to 60s and 70s with Beatles and Neil Young playing in the background. I enjoyed coffee and apple and caramel crepes with cream. Perfect.

I was in Reykjavik twice and the first time I visited, this cute cafe was closed. I was drawn to the bright orange color of the building facade and badly wanted to try it. I was so happy that it was open the second time...I visited the city. The cafe is quirky and eclectic with different forms of art decorating the walls, figurines, and other pieces. The service was excellent and the Skyr yogurt cake was good, as was the coffee. There were a lot of locals there too, which is a sign of it's popularity. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. There is an orange cat named Josie who may make an appearance as well!More

We ate here for dinner one night with our two kids. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the decor is fun and eclectic. We had the grilled cheese and fries and my son had the crepe and we all enjoyed our food. The...Skyr cake was delicious also. Be sure to check out the bathroom while you are there also. If you like kitties, there is an orange cat that likes to hang out at Cafe Babalu and she is the sweetest. She sat with us in a chair at our table while we ate our dinner.More

The cafe cat deserves a five star rating on its own. A bit weird, but a very charming place. Cosy and good coffee. Would recommend hopping in.

Fun inside and out, this cafe also served the perfect food for us! Tomato soup with grilled cheese, and fries with grilled cheese - two specials that were filling and great value. The decor is fun and quirky - we loved it - and you...should definitely experience the toilet! Loved the skyr cheesecake too!More

The space is cozy and charming and the food was quite good. We went daily for our morning coffee and a pastry. The apple crumb cake is heavenly and the chai lattes are delish!
