Was cold outside and a bowl of soup was just what we needed - every day they have two soups - one vegetarian and one meat-based. The vegetarian soup was a curry-based and delicious - as was the bread bowl in which it's served. I...More

Terrific, hearty soup with one meat and one vegetarian option every day served in bread bowl. There doesn't seem to be a way to know what the choices are without going in - but you'll enjoy the surprise.

We stumbled upon this gem during our first day in Iceland. We were chilly from doing a walking tour and Svarta Kaffid offered the perfect solution! Warm, delicious soup (cream of mushroom and Hungarian meat soup) in the best bread bowl I've ever eaten along...More

The experience, eating soup out of a piece of bread, is why you go here. The soup and bread is good but not great and I wouldn't recommend it or come here again. The staff is super friendly but if you enjoy good food there...More

Svarta Kaffid is a really good place to go for a less expensive dinner. Just 2 kinds of soup-meat and vegetable and both are delicious. Served in a bread bowl with that yummy Icelandic butter, it is a meal. We had a beer and a...More

Had great memories of this wonderful little restaurant from a visit two years ago. So, another visit to Reykjavik and another visit to Sparta Kaffid. It's a great stop for dinner...hearty soups (TWO) and beverages. The soup is served in a delicious freshly made bread...More

My wife and I had a beef coriander and a cream of broccoli. Bother the soup and the bread bowls were delicious. It was amazing how fast both the soup and our drinks were delivered.

We stopped in for lunch one day (wished we stopped in everyday). We both had the Icelandic meat soup and was simply delicious. The other soup option was wild mushroom and both my wife and I aren't crazy for mushrooms. The menu changes daily (the...More

If you're looking for a quick bite this spot is great for soup in a (I think) whole wheat bread bowl. There are usually 2 servers running the place and about just over a dozen tables, but the service is fast since the menu features...More

Description
Tiny family owned soup restaurant in the heart of Reykjavik We are the first "soup in bread" restaurant in Iceland. We've been serving soups in bread for over 20 years and still loving it. We don't take reservations, ever - but swing by and we will do our best to fit you in with smiles on our faces! :)
