We came to the restaurant called Operabaren, after originally seeking Operans Bakficka based on TA reviews. Based on photos on TA, the restaurant called Operakalleren here is Operabaren. There is a lot of confusion because Operans Bakficka and Operabaren share the same menu and kitchen and are part of Operakallaren as I understand it. All are in Opera house. In... More

Even by Swedish state alcohol monopoly prices governed by Systembolaget, the price of a MID-PRICED bottle of wine at this restaurant was over £60! Food was good, although not exceptional. The ambience of the restaurant is a main selling point, along with the excellent service. Just make sure that you take a 'flexible friend'!

Visited on the 30th December. Very good food ,lovely atmosphere and an edgy but fun waiter who kept us entertained. Not cheap but good quality food. Although the portions were Viking size which left no room for dessert. The traditional Herring starter is worth having although not if don't like raw fish ! The beef was excellent although there was... More

This is a wonderful restaurant for fine dining and freshly sourced food from local areas and particular ingredients from around Europe. We had an array of dishes which we very much enjoyed and the level of detail presented about each dish in terms of how it was prepared and sourced made the meal very theatrical and enjoyable. We had the... More

This wonderful restaurant is the cousin to the more famous and more formal Café Opera. We were spending our last night in Stockholm, did not want something as over the top as Café Opera, and we made the right choice. After more than two weeks in Scandinavia without one bad meal, this night may have been the most enjoyable. The... More

Of all the places we ate at in Stockholm, this felt the most Swedish. The food was great, escargot to start and then the meatballs and steak with amazing potatoes. It was very quiet, with what seemed to be mostly local businessman (and I do mean men, there were few women the night we were here) and some families of... More

A small, hidden, art nouveau gem in the Opera house. The service and the food are both impeccable. Typical Swedish fare. Best Beef Rydberg in town. Everything on the menu is a perfect classic. Best for parties of two people or maximum three for it is a small scale place. Be sure not to confuse Operabaren with Operans bakficka or... More

We found this restaurant by chance, and had a most memorable evening. The dinner was exceptional quality, service discreet, and decor and ambience truly one to remember. We enjoyed traditional Swedish food, of exceptional quality. Fois gras with scallops and fish stew particularly recommended. We would recommend this to anyone wanting a very special night out. Cannot recommend this more... More

Great food, exceptional wine list in the the Stockholm Opera House. Great service and classic Swedish home cooked food. The interior design is art nouveau and more than 100 years old. Intimate and cozy atmosphere perfect for smaller lunches/dinners.

Description
Operabaren is a neighbour to Stockholm's famous Café Opera. With its original decor intact, this is a unique environment, mixing Art Nouveau with the atmosphere of an English gentleman's club. A visit to Operabaren takes you more than a century back in time, to 1905 when the club opened. Since then, the restaurant has attracted a varied clientele - artists, writers, businesspeople and musicians. You can meet up here over dinner - classic Swedish fare dominates - or just order a drink, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the view over Kungsträdgården.
