Taverna katerina pontios is a lovely taverna set at the bottom of the main entrance to the castle. On mellisinou st. The tables are set in the street the food is good and fresh all cooked by katerina herself. The cost is half of the mainstreet and is amazingly good value for money.

We had the menu for 2 - Greek salad, Tzatziki, 2 Stifados, 0.5 l wine - for a total of €18, which was incredible value. OK, the stifado wasn't the biggest portion I've ever seen, but more importantly it was lovely meat and very well prepared. Round the corner you would pay about €24 for 2 stifados without all the... A small street taverna at the foot of the Fortezza, with just a few tables, serving simple traditional food. Katerina was very friendly, and we really enjoyed our dinner there. The various set menus for two are good value for the old town area.

After wandering around the old town we came upon this little taverna and enjoyed a Greek salad, bread, beef stifado and half a litre of wine all for 19 euros. The beef stifado was delicious and the meat was very tender and just shredded. The service was excellent, if a little too quick. Great value for money and good home... More

This is a charming restaurant and produces very homely food. Run by 2 really nice women who take pride in what they serve. It reminds me very much of eating out in Rethymnon over 30 years ago when places were less trendy than they tend to be now. You won't find better value with set menu's, including a jug of... More

Really good simple Cretan food at very good value. Average €20 - 25 per meal for two people which included drinks. Located on the pavement you soon forget there is a road at your side due to clever use of pots and trees. Wonderful hostess Katerina is very passionate about her produce. There are several set menus which typically include... More

Take it form a food specialist, this little restaurant is brilliant! Ok, the seating is not the most attractive, but the food is by far the best we've had in Crete. Katerina cooks homely Greek specialities, away from the tourist traps. Katerina offers a evening menu that range from 17 to 25 Euros for 2!! Amazing. This is real food,... More

Katerina is a lovely woman always happy and makes you feel as if you are an old friend. The meals are all freshly cooked, absolutely perfect and large servings. The starters alone were the size of a main course, The stifado was great and the sardines were crispy on the outside and soft and juicy inside. If you are in... More
