About
A little more about us and our dining philosophy Ama Lachei at Nefelis is a traditional greek mezedopoleio, which means is a restaurant that serves meze. Meze is a selection of small dishes, resembling appetizers or tapas. They are served in a random order and are shared by all dining companions. They are not served all together, but each dish arrives at the table as soon as it is prepared. Therefore, there are no starters or main dishes and everyone shares the same small dishes. According to the Mediterranean dining tradition these small dishes are shared between friends and family, while consuming alcoholic drinks, often over the course of an entire evening. The serving of meze is designed to encourage conversation, because people are not so focused upon eating a full course meal set before them. The culture of sharing food brinks people together to communicate and socialize, which makes it a tradition worth exploring...

Fabulous restaurant, quality ingredients, imaginative dishes, friendly, knowledgable English speaking staff and lovely courtyard ambiance. Well priced too. You could not ask for more

Wonderful place just round the corner form where we were staying. I'd suggest booking as it got very full and we arrived early. Lots of students and staff from the University came to eat. All the plates are meze and don't order too much, two each to start as the portions of lovely food are heart.
We had octopus with pea puree, fava beans, chickpeas with pork sausage, Greek salad and some sheep cheese. all were outstanding.
The house red was wonderful and we moved onto the Ouzo, two bottles later we were very happy and the waiters were a little shocked!
Really lovely building and you can sit outside in the summer in large courtyard

We came here for our dinner before the day of departure from Athens. We didn't make any reservation, so we had to occupy tables outdoors. For anyone coming here, I would recommend making a reservation in the first place - it will pay off.
The place has an international vibe, there were quite a few foreigners, the French, the Americans, the Arabs and of course a huge crowd of Greeks. The whole inner yard was packed with people, which to me seems to be a pretty good indicator of the place being decent.
We opted out for a few dishes (which I honestly do not remember), but what I do indeed remember is that they were delicious and well-made. The wine was also quite decent,
All in all, wonderful experience. We wish we could have found this place earlier and could have gone and eaten there on another occasion. If we are in Athens, we will be back!

The garden is lovely and the drinks we had were good (red wine and tsikoudia). But the food was absolutely unacceptable in a city where the average is usually great. They served us kolokithikeftedes (fried courgette balls) which were clearly from frozen, pulled pork bao buns which I couldn't even eat - they must have prepared the filling days ago and left in the fridge, it was completely stodgy. Also a sad looking sausage, and some overly fried mushrooms with hardly any sauce and lemon slices which again, looked like they'd been left out for days. We politely called the manager and she proceeded to tell us the courgette balls were not from fried and picked up the lemon slices and squeezed them to say they were fresh - I am still sure neither of these were true. She did, halve our bill, but I want to tell tourists you can do so much better. Athens has great food and this place is sadly taking the piss!!!! The service generally is also very slow and lucklustre.

Ama Lachei is a very nice restaurant and bar in a very nice area of Athens. The food was of very high quality and the service was impeccable during our visit. The price was very fair and we stayed long after we finished our food just to enjoy the atmosphere. On Saturdays there is a lovely food market outside and we were so impressed by Ama Lachei that we visited twice in our two day visit.

We dropped off Kallidromiou street into this beautiful garden restaurant following a final morning at the the Farmer's Market during a month long stay. We'd tried many restaurants in the area, but this one was our favourite.
Water and an appetiser of olives was immediately brought to our table along with a cute, little mini bottle of olive oil.
We ordered three meze plates:
- A delicious mixed leaf salad with cabbage, cracked wheat, green apple, figs, and raisins flavoured with spearmint, onion, citrus vinagrette with poppy seeds in a delicious dressing
- Skioufichta Pasta from Crete with mushrooms and truffle oil
- A port risotto
To that, we added bread and a superb Volaki from Andros cheese dish with tomato chutney.
We ordered a little too much, more used to the tiny meze plates we get back home (here, each was equivalent to one main meal), and asked for a box to take home two of our leftover dishes.
The service was friendly and welcoming. We absolutely loved the little spirit shots that came with the bill.
Highly recommended.

Great food and reasonable prices. The reason that I am giving it 2 stars is that for the past 2 years I have taken my office staff out to lunch twice a month (usually a Tuesday) and we spend on average 300 to 400 euros per visit to Ama Lachei. My office has grown to 15 people and when we tried to book a table or 2 for our group. we were told that the establishment can no longer accommodate parties over 10 :( It;s too bad they lost out to a great and steady monthly income.....

Ama Lachei was DELICIOUS! Everyone should give this place a visit, it was perfect for our family of 6. At night, be careful of the surrounding area, as some of the streets look a little shady and could be dangerous to a solo traveler. We got a lot of dishes, and those of us who wanted to share with each other did, but everyone got at least a taste of all the dishes in our version of the ‘meze’ dining style. We got the pork ribs (really good!), the beef kavourma (soooo tender), fried mashed potato balls (amazing!), fava (be wary has oil on top), a salad (don’t remember the name but it had some sort of grilled cheese on top), grilled sea bass (from the daily menu), lamb kebabs, beef burgers, chocolate cremeux (delicious and kid friendly), and the homemade ice cream. Everything was delicious, and the service was good as well. Definitely worth the walk if you want a great meal, everyone who visits Athens should give it a visit!

Visited this place during my last visit in Athens. I think the restaurant's highlight is its ambience. The garden looks amazing and even if we couldn't sit outside due to the weather, the interior was also very nice. I really liked the fact that tables had enough space between them (a mistake many restaurants do in Greece) as well as the high ceiling decor.
We got the coq au vin which was delicious. The rest of the dishes where where from average to good (many lacking the extra twist that is not very popular in new-age Greek restaurants and taverns). I'd also prefer to see a few more non-meat dishes on the menu. The wine list was modest but very nice.
Despite the 3/5 of my rating, I think you should definitely visit this place. My rating is mostly attributed to the menu's simplicity which is not of my taste.

The place is beautiful and well furnished, but atmosphere is very familiar.
The service is very professional and fast.
The food is good, well prepared and served in a modern way but keeping a greek traditional taste.
My only complain is for the cooking of pasta, sincerely overcooked.

This place is close to the National Archeological Museum and we had lunch here after a visit. Nice welcome and very friendly service from the young staff. Lovely ambience and decor (see 'etched' mural). Not all dishes were available. We had the best chickpea dish ever which was cooked with some greens, not sure how it could be so tasty. We also enjoyed the squid and cod fritters (although batter was a little too heavy). Seemed like it would be a changing menu. We enjoyed a glass of wine and a beer, and agreed that it was good value for such great food and location. We appreciated the complimentary cake with the bill. Would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for lunch yesterday, drawn in by its beautiful ambiance. Unfortunately, our dining experience took a disappointing turn when our food arrived. The kleftiko resembled more of a soup than the traditional dish, and the siufihta with broccoli seemed to have been overcooked, likely preheated and past its prime. When we brought these concerns to the waiter while settling the bill, he simply noted that he would inform the chef. Despite the charming atmosphere, our enjoyment was diminished by these culinary disappointments. We hope that this feedback will assist the restaurant in improving its offerings.

Great food, service and environment. We earlier had the Hellas Revival workshops and they recommended this restaurant for lunch. We had a salad, chicken, meatballs and an appetizer (cannot remember its name) and all 4 were great. We sit at the outside yard which is very beautiful. All employees wear masks and are kind and helpful. And they all speak English very well. They also treated us 2 shots of some sweet liquor. We paid just 33euros!!

Everything was amazing in this restaurant ! The place is beautiful and well decorated , a pleasure to eat outside. The dishes are so tasty !!! The price is more than affordable (8-10€ per dish) . The liqueur is offered at the end of the dinner. I recommend it at 100% !

This is the most cozy place! The outdoor seating is super nice and the staff exceptionally good.
The Greek wine on the list is at a good price for a good quality.
Price level is good. 70 EUR for 4 dishes and the most expensive red wine on the menu.
5/5 for all of above!
The food was of varied taste though with too much truffle oil in the mushroom risotto and too little salt in the the chicken pasta. The grilled cheese and the quinoa salads where great though.
3/5 for the food
and the toilet looked like a german autoban raststätte.

Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
