We have chosen Magemenos Avlos for lunch as a homage to the history of greek culture. It turned out a warm atmosphere, a most helpful and friendly service and generally a pleasant time. I must sterss that the food was very well prepared and of good quality. Having found a couple of hostile comments on line, we did not expect... More

Where shall I start? An old glory of Athens turned mediocre. Frequented by loyal clientele. Service is mixed. We were attended to after other clients who came later. The maitre apologized and the service after that was attentive and good. No wine list! We were offered the house white or red. The white was very thin, and for 16 euros... More

This restaurant is a historical one, having many famous Greek people as its regular customers such as the kings, prime ministers, musicians, etc. We (a couple) chose to sit at the exterior part of the restaurant which looked like a magical garden. The atmosphere was fresh and full of green colors because of many plants around. The menu options varied,... More

It is a restaurant that only the old glamor has left. The staff is polite but the food is not value for money. There is a very strong smell from the kitchen and you think they never aired the space.

A really original place with great ambience and live music, decent dishes and service that is taking you back to the '60. The poor wine list might be an issue...

If you want to dine where Greeks go, eat good Greek food, in a pleasant environment, with -often- Greek music played, this could be one great choice. It isn´t in the middle of the most touristic areas, so you´ll probably need to take a cab, but it is a very good choice, and not far from the center of town.... More

We had dinner in the garden, and it was very nice. Food is very good and there is often music, to respect its tradition, as this was the favorite restaurant of Greek composer Hatzidakis. It is still a favorite of many famous people, and, indeed, next to us there was a large group, mixed nationalities (representing several European countries) and... More

We had a great time eating out among trees , the service was ecxellent, the taste perfect as the first time we were there in the 70s.....Much older now but still extremely satisfied with the offered care and the menu bringing back memories. They respect the client ant it shows with fresh roses on every table, ice bucket for the... More

Staying in Pangrati

Neighbourhood Profile
Pangrati
The elongated Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, acts as grand gateway to the otherwise purely Athenian neighborhood of Pangrati. This area of typical small squares, busy main roads and residential streets will give you a clear sense of what living in this metropolis is like. A walk up quiet Markou Mousourou Street on the west side of the stadium will bring you past the First National Cemetery to Mets, home to many expats. Turn right to reach the charming Platia Varnava. East of the stadium, commercial Eratosthenous Street leads to rather nondescript Platia Plastira, from where Effranoros Street continues uphill to Platia Profiti Ilia, crowned by a huge church. Among the standard four- to six-story apartment blocks that typify Athens, Pangrati also boasts some genuinely authentic tavernas and the odd trendy bar.
