For those uninitiated into Greek cuisine, this restaurant is perfect, especially after a vigorous walk in the Acropolis. The street it is in is very touristic, but nice. We chose this place out of the many on Adrianau St because the waiters were very polite and friendly, and the place contemporary. The chief waiter seemed to be ready with recommendations,... More

Had a great time, right near the Acropolis. A very nice band playing Greek music, good Greek food, good times. Also decent wifi and Yanni, our host was the best!

The meal was terrific and service helpful. I got several small plates to sample a number of things (the dolmades were great, and the lamb kababs also). Nice attention from the wait staff even though I showed up at an inconvenient time - right at the end of lunch hour.

The most delicious melitzana bourekakia and kolokuthokeftedes I have ever eaten! And I have eaten many...All the starters and different meats we ate last night were perfect! Lovely flavours, well-cooked and of excellent quality. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxing and the view of the historical street in the fairytale-meets-ancient Greek landscape simply magical! Prices were fine, normal for... More

This taverna is located just near the old Agora, on a very animated pedestrian street. You can seat on the terrace and have a drink to see the passers-by or you can have dinner/lunch. We stopped there just to have a drink and we ended having dinner after we saw a lot of appetising stuffs being served to the near... More

We stumbled across this place whilst walking around the Acropolis site and having a wander around, decided to have a meal and it was amazing! Value and location were beautiful, shaded from the Athenian sun under the trees it was picturesque and chilled, lovely food and service, would definitely recommend! We will be back :)

Live music, good food, great service! Close to Ancient Agora! OK, maybe not the best Dakos salad, but for that you have to go to Crete 😀. Everything else is good. Try it!

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
