Reading previous reviews feels like I visited a different place - but no this is the one. 'Persuaded' into this restaurant by a rather large waiter outside claiming it was the best and the only place that does the real Greek spit lamb roast. No tables available for 6 but we were lured in with the promise of a free... More

We were there on Easter, so were tempted by the grilled lamb. It appeared to be more expensive that we would eat in a nice restaurant in France! It is true that is closed to the Acropolis, but it is pity for all the references from lonely planet! Would not recommend it for the food!

Our favorite restaurant - four days in Athens and a meal here each day. Everything on the menu, which is almost as extensive as a NYC area Greek diner but more upscale, was excellent. The grilled octopus and shrimp, beef stew, "lamb in a pot", pizza with prosciutto and shaved parmesan, Greek salad, gigantic grilled mushrooms - all highly recommended;... More

Great service; souvlaki was average but the spit roast lamb was incredible. Good chips too. Prices were reasonable and no hidden extras.

My daughter and I just dined tonight. We were served by a large gentleman that managed to up sell us, and a little pushy I felt. The tables were very close especially after a large family group occupied the thoroughfare. My fish soup was delicious and my daughter's chicken breast was perfectly cooked. I would say it is good, not... More

They were busy, but as a solo traveler I think as a customer they were anxious to get me in, but I got overlooked once I was in. It took a good 10 minutes for them to take my order.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
