we stopped here a few times for coffees/beers and just loved the relaxed atmosphere. Love to see the men all sit around drinking their coffees, having the chats and then going on their way. We were lucky to have good weather so sat outside. We did venture in one day and they had an open fire and it was really... More

Maybe the location is quite wonderful, but we were waiting to order our coffee for 15'. When I asked if they will serve us, instead of 'sorry' is they said 'please sit and we'll come'! We waited another 5' and no one came. It seemed they didn't care. I am Greek. Απλά απαράδεκτοι

This one steps away from the usual tavern but it is a good place in the mornings to sip your coffee and watch the leisuring Greeks or the confused tourists. It is a nice place with great interior design.

The location is great and was near our hotel. The music is fantastic if you like soul, which we do. Service was very friendly and the food looked good - we only stopped for drinks. Prices are high but that is really the same in many in this area which is popular with tourists.

Oionos is a hidden treasure located in Kydathineon street in Plaka. they serve coffee, food, everything of excellent quality. During winter there is a fireplace inside. During summer you can enjoy a cold coffee. Prices are normal for a tourist region.

We stumbled on this cafe by accident during our holiday in Athens, and we were pleasantly surprised. The drinks were excellent thanks to George, our savvy barista, and we were served perfectly by Panos, who had an excellent knowledge of Greek wines and helped us choose a nice white with our dinner. Yia sou George and Panos!!

I came here as part of a tour group, so there was a lot of us. However, the food was very good. I had a vegetable dish starter in a very good sauce, and then chicken and French fries as the main course. The chicken was absolutely delicious and was very tender and flavorful. This was a nice little spot... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
