2 MICHELIN Stars: Excellent cooking, worth a detour!
There are places in the world that, because of their location, exert a special power of attraction and this is definitely the case with Antiqvvm, situated in a leafy park in the centre of Porto, next to the Museu Romântico. This sensation is enhanced by its pleasant garden boasting idyllic views of the banks of the Douro! In its elegant dining rooms, tastefully embellished with classic and contemporary decorative detail, chef Vítor Matos has a fondness for creative seasonal cuisine that places huge emphasis on his ingredients, combining these in a way that aims to enhance the main component of each dish (we particularly enjoyed the blue lobster with Moqueca, and the Silken & Smooth Tofu Mount Fuji, with chilli, citrus fruit, mango and curry). In his own words, the chef, who finds inspiration from his surroundings, “is continually striving to promote the values of cuisine that is cultural, natural, evolving, social and artistic”. He offers just two tasting menus: Sensory Moments (the Imperial Anjou Pigeon was our favourite dish) and Organic (vegetarian).

On a sunny evening we were welcomed by Diogo, who remained our main serving professional throughout the evening. Due to the weather, he suggested to take an aperitif on the terrace, which was a wonderful idea. From there we had a chance to enjoy the view, browse the menu and the wine list and even to enjoy the first amuse-gueule. On the terrace the sommelier also helped us with our first wine choice of the evening. Continuing on in the restaurant the second amuse-gueule and the wine was served. What followed was a delightful journey of beautifully-plated and delicious fine dining and professional service. After the first bottle of wine and referring to our specific tastes, the sommelier was able to recommend another wine, which was not on the wine list, but in the same price range. It didn’t disappoint. It was a special evening, which we were lucky enough to afford and experience.

There's not much you can say about a Michelin-starred restaurant.
The prize awarded and the status speak for themselves.
The restaurant's terrace with a fantastic view over the Douro River, the service and the tasting menu make this space a place of excellence in the city of Porto.
I chose the organic menu, which is a vegetarian menu, without meat or fish. As a result, the ingredients used are, on average, very cheap (fruit, vegetables, cheese).
The presentation is impeccable in every aspect and pleases both the eye and the touch: each dish is served on elegant plates, either cold or heated, depending on the product served.
Regarding the food itself, divided into seven dishes, I must say that only half (Umami, Memorias, La florida) left me truly satisfied.

After a confusion on booking another Michelin restaurant and not having a reservation Antiqvvm was able to provide me and my husband with a table with last-minute notice.
The service was impeccable. I enjoyed every course. The only one I did not personally care for was the Wagyu, I would have preferred it cooked more as the texture was not for my personal liking, the flavor was great though. The wine pairings were amazing. Great information from the Sommelier.
I’m so very thankful I was able to get in and have this experience

It's a pity they haven't kept, not that quality is there, but in recent years we were gratified with some "babies" from the Chef the quantities per dish and the acceptable parings. Today it is only a place for tourists, quantity/price only even for those who go to see the Michelin Guides. Who visited this place for many years and already lived there good lunches and dinners will be minimally disappointed and Chef Vitor Matos is aware of this situation is not the only culprit without any doubt!!!
Put a sign on the door saying: please we only want tourists!! I've defended you many times, this time there's no end where you can get him.
If you want you can block me this is already on other platforms. We're sorry!

We visited in June (see my previous review) and it was one of the most sublime meals I have ever had.
This evening our experience fell off a cliff in terms of service and taste. Incredibly the same chef, but the floor lacked a maitre d.
This time round the savoury dishes were either overly sweet or overly seasoned. Both of us got back to the hotel with our tongues hanging out of our mouths gasping for tea. A few of the dishes really worked well and felt balanced e.g the scallops & dessert. Halfway through the meal we commented to our waiter about our misgivings but were told “…we changed our menu last week”. Err, and ?
The sommelier chose well, no complaints although DOP (a consistently great restaurant in town) has a more enigmatic selection.
In June Antiqvvm restaurant had a vigilant maitre d who made her presence felt across the floor, she was sadly missed tonight.
Our waiter was way to green behind the ears, very tense from the start and couldn’t really process feedback. He really shouldn’t be on the floor, at least not yet; the other two waiters we liked but they weren’t serving us. Our waiter should bear in mind that when giving critical feedback we’re not critical of him but critical of the chef. You ask us how we’re the dishes so we tell you. The same waiter prepared the most disastrous matcha tea that tasted like soap water. When my Japanese partner commented about why she couldn’t drink the tea he seemed overwhelmed and unable to compute her comments.
I made some general comments on the drop in quality to the sommelier at the end of the evening but was again met with “…we changed our menu last week”. I repeated my point but he didn’t seem very interested.
One has to ask how can things go SO wrong in 6 months ? Really confused.
Turn it around please.

This restaurant is an exceptional experience. I had the 8-course tasting menu, each course a masterpiece in appearance and flavor. Tables are far enough from each other that you don't even notice the other diners and the service is exceptional as the waiter explains each course. Truly a wondrous experience.

A great place - beginning the evening taking the aperitif on the terrace over the Douro. A perfect staff with great hospitality, every single dish a little piece of art and perfectly adapted to my numerous nutricional allergies (what other Michelin-stared restaurants in Porto as Le Monument or Pedro Lemos do not want or are not able to do.........), supplemented by a really exciting wine-pairing. Thanks Mr. Matos for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this all - and if you will do it again we would love to return here next summer........

In recent years I’ve become a bit wary of going to Michelin starred restaurants. But I celebrated my birthday with my wife in Porto and Antiquum boasts one of the most stunning views of the city so we decided to go. We’re delighted we did. The food was extraordinarily good - only 2 tasting menus (1 vegetarian and 1 for meat/fish eaters) means the chef can really focus on pulling out all the stops. For simplicity we went for matched wines - all Portuguese and of the highest quality. Service respectful, attentive and friendly. All in all a magical evening. Getting back into the Michelin starred scene definitely paid off for us. Highly recommended.,

I rarely write any restaurant review, but I thought Antiqvvm really deserves a lot of credits and praises, and I hope more restaurant lovers will experience this hidden gem.
I have been to a few dozens Michelin starred restaurants in different cities, and I feel that Antiqvvm is among the top 10% I have tried, in terms of food quality, presentation, creativity, settings and services. I was actually quite surprised that it had only one Michellin star but not more. Not sure whether it is because they do not have the most exquisite wine list, but they do offer some good quality wines from Portugal and other places at reasonable prices. And their sommelier is knowledgeable and friendly. In fact all the staff are extremely attentive and yet not intrusive.
The view from the outdoor terrace is simply magnificent, day or night. All my friends were very satisfied with the experience at Antiqvvm and we definitely will go back if we are in Porto again.

This Michelin rated restaurant in Porto is astounding! With two tasting menus, each with a wine pairing, you are guaranteed a dinner like no other. Every course comes beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. It is expensive, and you’ll need to make a reservation in advance, but it is worth every euro. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the service is as elegant as the food. Our dinner there was a highlight of our trip to Portugal. I give it 5 stars!

What a beautiful experience. From exiting the car , down the ambient stairs to the restaurant at night to the welcoming attention of the high quality service in this restaurant. Every detail thought about. The attention to detail and colour, flavour and excuisitness of the food to the super service from all sides. What an experience. We did both menus and pairing and am so glad we did. A night to remember forever. Thankyou.

This restaurant thoroughly deserves its Michelin Star. Every course was sublime and the wine pairing was exceptional with excellent explanations from the sommelier. We dined outside on the most stunning terrace on a beautiful evening with lovely views over Porto in a very peaceful and romantic setting. Finally our waiter for the evening was exceptional, I did not catch his name but he looked after us brilliantly and had only been working there a few weeks, but clearly had studied the menu and got us everything we needed throughout the evening. Thank you to him too.

Simply outstanding. Beautiful restaurant with magnificent view over the Duoro. The service was impeccable as you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. Every course of the tasting menu was a culinary delight, executed to perfection and showing off local ingredients with subtlety, and finesse, each with some twist or surprise. An absolute delight and quite frankly better than many of the Michelin three star restaurants I have visited in my lifetime. Expensive but quality speaks for itself.

It's a gastro experience I certainly want to repeat. First of all it's a magnificent 18th century building full of history. Secondly, the food is one of a kind consisted of 3A raw materials-apart from the summer truffle- and a lot of fantasy. The tall waiter that took care of us all night should be awarded for his professionalism and kindness. Three minor things that I have listed in my diary are:
1. We never serve tap, full of chlorine water to a customer who selected bottled water. Just asked for half glass of water to get my vitamin when finished my dinner and I was served tap water. It destroyed the after taste of all the magnificent aromas chef Vitor Matos invented.
2. The sommelier shouldn't be so strict. Smile is free of charge. Concerning our communication I must admit that it was not successful. I asked for a riesling for my fish and the answer was But it's too sweet. Then I asked for a viognier and the answer was that In Portugal we don't have Viognier. In five seconds he told me We do have one Viognier.
3. Fish portions are on the small size. 20% more would be ideal

We had an amazing last dinner with friends at Antiqvvm starting with cocktails on the patio while watching an incredible sunset. Both the sensory and organic menus were incredible, and the wine pairing was excellent. The final apple cider was so good I took a bottle home with me (along with some of the Gaia bread). Of the handful of Michelin starred meals like this I've been fortunate enough to have, this was the first one where every dish was delicious. Usually one or two that just aren't for me, but not the case this time.
