My husband and I loved this restaurant! The staff are superb- really welcoming and they take the time to explain the menu in detail. We also asked for a wine recommendation and it was fantastic and only 15 euros. The food is immense- we had...the cheese starter to share and the rib eye and T-bone steaks for our mains. Both were cooked to perfection and were such good value for money! We shall definitely return!More

Lovely friendly restaurant fitted us in. Best to book. Steaks cooked to perfection. My husband is a steak lover and says rib eye was best he ever had. Baked potatoes were perfect. Chef and servers very attentive.

Husband and I spent 4 nights eating here while we were in Funchal, in October/November this year. If you like a steak cooked perfectly then this is the place for you. We had the filet steak each time with chips between us and I had...the salad as well. So good to have a steak cooked just how you like it, rare for me and medium for my husband. The accompanying wine suggested by the waiter was delicious as well. You need to book for this place, we usually made our reservation for 8:00pm and it soon filled up. Well worth every penny.More

My partner and I loved this relaxed, friendly restaurant specializing in Argentinian steak. The service was super friendly and genuine.

My husband was really keen for a good steak so we booked dinner at La Vaca Negra. Despite friendly staff and a nice ambience my meal didn't live up to expectations and the reviews. While my empanada was tasty and the proveleta enjoyable, the burger...was a real let down. It was dry and unlike any burger I'd eaten before with bits of vegetables in it. It was more like a frikadeller I would say. The meat was also really salty. Thankfully we had a bottle of wine to help wash it down and my husband did enjoy his steak. On the plus side, every table had its own hand sanitiser which was a really appreciated thought.More

Best restaurant we went to on our 2 weeks stay and we visited some very good ones. We went 4 times as it was so good. Good variety of mainly steak/meat dishes. It is busy which is no surprise as the locals seem to go...there as the food is so good so best to book. The fillet steak was large and superb quality and taste and cooked perfectly (rare for my wife and medium for me). Service was great and very helpful in selecting good Portuguese red wines (15 euros a bottle) to go with the steaks. The chef came out to check everything was ok and was buzzing about adding to the good atmosphere. Covid distancing and masks were followed and gel on the tables as well. Can’t wait to go back when we return to Madeira.More

If you don't want steak, go somewhere else! La Vaca Negra has a simple but very effective formula. A small selection of starters (not steak), and a selection of great steaks for the main course (some of which are large enough to share!). Great steak...cooked to order over wood, lovely chips & a side salad - what more could you want? There is also a good, reasonably priced wine list. The meat comes from the Portuguese Azores islands (Madeira does not have many cows due to lack of pasture land!). We were so impressed that we went twice during our recent stay.More
