We popped in for a cake and a beer. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly. It was popular with locals and a few tourists. It provided a very welcome break after visiting museums and walking about in the heat.

We stopped here for a break having just been to the Frederico de Freitas and going to visit the Natural History Museum in the afternoon which The Prince Charles is opposite. It is a small cafe and we seemed to be the only tourists having coffee, the locals coming in were having meals.

This is a cafe run by two brothers who are very nice and helpful. They serve freshly squeezed orange and will do toast or whatever you want for breakfast. Whenever we were in there it was frequented by locals rather than tourists.

This is a caff where the locals call in for a coffee or beer. Don't expect too much but it is where you will you will find the genuine Madeira

Stopped in out of the rain for a drink and snack. Waiter was really friendly and in broken English (much better than my Portuguese) explained what the snacks and cakes were. Very nice warm meat filled croquettes and cakes. What impressed me most were the locals who popped in and out for a quick coffee or beer making the place... More

I love stumbling upon little local bars, and seeing the look of surprise on the faces of the locals as they think you have taken a wrong turning. We stopped here for a quick cold Coral on the way back from town to our hotel. Lovely little slice of local Madeiran life. Give me this over the touristy bars in... More

If you want to combine a taste of local cafe culture and a tasty snack break whilst checking out the sites of Funchal the Prince Charles is your best option. Whilst the narrow bars of the old town may seem a more authentic experience this cafe is as Portugese as it gets. The beer is great, they sell Super Bock... More

The BEST Coral on Madeira, the BEST coffee in Madeira, absolutely brilliant host (Elidio). It may only be a cafe but it is much, much more. Locals adore it, tourists love it. If you visit the museums it's a must. Just a snack, a coffee or a pastel (wonderful) and Elidio's soups are superb. If you only visit Madeira for... More
