. We returned to Tokos after being there 2 years ago. The restaurant has been modernised but not to much, a fresh coat of paint and new chairs what a difference. The fod is as great as ever and such a good atmosphier.

What a find, 10 minutes walk from our hotel. Not only does this guy know how to cook he also grows the most amazing orchids. I had avocado for starters, for my main course had fish and our waitress advised on the wine for us to go with the sole. It was spot on. Normally we skip deserts but went... More

Have dined here at least once a year for the last 10 years and hope we can continue to do so for a long time to come. This is our favourite restaurant in Funchal. It is an owner chef restaurant and though small in size it is a great place for dinner. Lots of choice and we can recommend the... More

We've been to a number of restaurants along this stretch of road and this is by far the best of those we've tried. The host is amiable and genial. The other staff are superbly trained, efficient, personable and professional. The tables are set "properly" in terms of cutlery, linen and glassware. The food is excellent and plentiful. The prices are... More

They were decorating before Christmas so we didn't go to Tokos until last week. The prices have risen considerably since we were there this time last year though the food was good once we had worked out just how expensive the dinner was likely to be. It's a small place which means possibly having to share a table, though with... More

Since our last review,(June/July 2016),we have visited Toko's 3 times on this current holiday in Madeira. The Restaurant has been totally redesigned and refurbished, and the atmosphere has been enhanced by the light coloured furnishings and their design. The staff remain the same team working extremely effectively under the keen eye of the owner/chef. The menu remains very extensive with... More

Here you can get first class fish (and other food), but restaurant room is very light (like a laboratory), and tables are so close to each other that you here conversation on other tables, even though you would not want. And vice versa, of course. It is a pity.

Philippe Tocas is a splendid chap, of course he is quirky, and sometimes he goes over the top, that's why it is mainly full. His fish is splendid and you receive a guided tour of what is on the fish trolley and that particular nights fish menu. The large paper menu which you are presented with contains his Starters, some... More

Apparently the prices used to be significantly lower... Waited an hour for the starters which were mediocre and the main course swordfish was overcooked and dry, coffee was capsule based etc., wines were good though, current prices are 50-80 EUR/person/2-3 course meal incl. drinks
