Authentic Madeira restaurant situated in the old town, very smartly decorated in a warm and comforting atmosphere. The menu is good with plenty of choice. the dining experience is only enhanced by the guitar playing of Juan Calderaru who is superb to listen to.

We happened by this restaurant , drawn to it by the sound of some wonderful guitar playing. We returned a few days later to enjoy a lovely meal. The food was excellent and the staff helpful and friendly. Everything about the restaurant is beautifully presented and pristine clean.

A little on the pricey side for the area but not extortionate. Excellent staff, surroundings and cuisine. Excellent visiting guitar duo.

We have had very good meals here in previous visits so it was disappointing to have quite tough meat this time and very very salty. We are regulars in Funchal. In our experience, this is the only restaurant which has refused our request for tap water. I find this more disappointing than a meal which was not the usual standard.

There was live music the night we were there which was fab, I think they were family members too!! Excellent quiz Its food and friendly staff, we are returning again in... More

Traditional decor with lots of white complemented with blue tile scenarios and plates on the walls. Limited choice of food. Prawn cocktail and asparagus are typical entrees with fish or meat for mains. The steak on a hot stone was tasty, according to my husband. My dourada (sea bass) was also tasty, but the plentiful veg was overlooked in my... More

We visited this restaurant as a result of being given a flyer by Juan Caldarado, the co-owner who, along with is band, plays wonderful guitar music in the centre of Funchal. The restaurant is in the middle of the old town but not easily discovered by accident. Complimentary mini-bus collection and return is included. The restaurant, although unprepossessing externally, is... More

Called in by chance and had a wine outside. The interior is fascinating and very Portuguese in decor. I will be back for a meal.

Description
The Casa Portuguesa was established in the year 2000 by Anabela Nunes who continues to run the restaurant with her family. The restaurant is small and intimate, located in one of the back streets in Funchal's Old Town, traditionally decorated with hand painted blue and white tiles, tables covered in hand made Madeiran table cloths and lit with tiny wall lights giving it warmth, character and an atmosphere of dining in a real Portuguese family home. We have a free pick-up service from hotels or apartments if required.
