Apart from the unique setting in the interior court of a 16th century palace, this restaurant is a real treat. The menu reflects a delicious selection of regional cuisine with lovely fish and meat options. While not extensive the menu reflects a variety of dishes. On balmy nights try to find a table outside in the smaller court area. It... More

It is in a Palace built in the XV century, and had profound modifications during the XVII century, and occupies the areas of the former kitchen and a patio. In the inside you can observe the two formidables chimneys seen from the outside. The food is traditional portuguese, at its best, with plates from all over the country. The service... More

We went there twice: an extraordinarily beautiful setting, unusually welcoming and knowledgeable service, very good and interesting food, good wine, ... and all that at lower prices than anything else we tried in the same area (around Rossio). Highly recommended!

Cute location, nothing to say about it. But...... Nothing present in the Menu was available! They said they had finished everything but it was just 20 PM. How is it possible????!! Finally we had two different dishes, a typical portuguese sausage and a roast beef. Both quite good, but the silence in the restaurant (we were alone) and the moscows... More

Sitting in the exterior courtyard I enjoyed a five course meal for 15 Euros. Horse mackerels with garlic were exceptional, then a nice squash soup, entree of dogfish, and dessert of a nut pudding, and espresso. This included a small pitcher of house white wine. The surroundings were beautiful in this old converted palazzio.

I wanted to introduce my foreign boyfriend to traditional portuguese food and we found the right place: all the dishes were from different parts of the country and super genuine! The location of this palace took us back to the 1600's and offered us some privacy during our meal. For starters we had a great selection of national cheeses and... More

Located on the very heart of Lisbon in the former kitchen of an historical palace. Menu with regional dishes. Try the degustation proposal if you feel like to have it all. Staff is correct. Decoration is quite simple. Not crowded.

We found Kantina, quite by accident after calling in on the Kiosk Ateneu and being recommended to visit by Ze... Forget all the other, so called, traditional restaurants in the area, this is the nearest you'll get to tradition in this busy part of Lisbon. The food is chosen from fresh produce available and ranges in dishes, through the week,... More

Nestled in the antique Palace of Independence (1640) where freedom from Spain was plotted, the newly open restaurant is a jewel, with an excellent service, cuisine and prices. Not crowded, they offer set menus for lunch and dinner, inspired from different regions of Portugal. On Monday night, we enjoyed Minho and Alto Douro cheese, cod fish and dessert. We also... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
