We were brought here by a friend who lives in Lisbon otherwise we would never have found the place. It is in the heart of Alfama, through the many little twisting streets. Just a few tables, we had the chicken with peanut sauce, chicken with coconut sauce, both came with white rice, our friend had a dish made with chick... More

Once we eventually found the restaurant we were not immediately bowled over by the decor. However we were shown to our seats and after taking our orders, the food arrived and it more than made up for our initial impression. The food was delicious and was accompanied by 2 men singing and playing guitar. There were other customers in the... More

On the way up to the castle we walked by this restaurant and decided that we would go back on the way down. What a great spot. You enter thru small gallery like , owned by local artist and downs the stairs you go to this lovely two floors restaurant. It was a sunny day and of course most of... More

Sao Crstovao restaurant doesn't seem like much but when you sit down and look around you get a sense of authenticity. This is because the place is really old, probably hasn't changed since the 70's. The service was okay considering no one could speak english in the whole place but at least the menu was in english so we could... More

We went in this restaurant thinking having good time in an easy restaurant... All went well except that 45 mn after we ordered the "waiter" explained us that our meal was not available anymore, we then asked for the bill to pay our drinks and not to wait for 45 mn more, the woman that seems to be the boss... I am a portuguese client and I can tell you that this is not a good place as it looks... The owner wants you to eat and drink more things all the time. They put a lots of things that you didn't ask on the table. Then when the bill comes you have a big surprise. Everyhting is false, even... More

We were told about this restaurant by a local taxi driver and on this advice we visited. We were the only customers although we shared the waiter's attention with. TV set showing live football! The menu and the quality off the food was fairly limited. We have eaten at much better nd less expensive restaurants in Lisbon and hence this... More

Great food from Cap Verde. Recommend the coconut chicken. The desert was also awesome. It is on the way to the castle. Very nice atmosphere and restaurant. You eat while listening to cap verdean music. Highly recommended

The restaurant is situated in a quiet street and the owners were lovely and accommodating. The smell of the food drew us in, however, the restaurant is no looker. The cafe itself is a bit of a greasy spoon, and if you can look passed this then you will have a good evening. If you want frills with your food,... More

This was one of the best and most memorable dinner experiences my husband and I had in Lisbon. First of all, it is a small place in the Alfama and we were the only people in the restaurant, other than the owner, some friends/family members, and a guy playing guitar and singing. They were very welcoming and we ended up... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
