This small restaurant offers a menu based in traditional portuguese food. Situated in the heart of Alfama, you can eat while listening Fado at the same time. The food is ok. The meat was difficult to chew it but the fish dishes were one with good flavour. The staff is very kind. And finally, you can enjoy of a nice... More

We were just escaping the rain and thought 'let's drop in and listen to Fado, warm up and have a glass of wine'... I never liked Fado much before. Too sad, mostly about suffering and certainly no dancing... anyhow, this bloke walks in, takes off his hat and coat and gets up and sings x2 songs.... AMAZING, totally blew me... More

The Fado was very enjoyable, but the food was very salty. Go after 22h30 pm if you want to avoid the tourists. If you just want to listen to music and drink wine, this place is great. According to the other reviews it seems they don't allow you to just drink.

I live in Lisbon since 4 month and I tried a lot restaurants. This was the worst food I had since I stay here. One of us had had fish, which was not good, but eatable. The side dish was 3 small potatoes. We had two different kinds of "cataplana" (the thing in a pott made of clay as shown... More

It is rare to find so badly cooked Portuguese food in Lisbon. The fish was old and smelly, the grilled squid was excessively burnt. Boiled potatoes were hard to spoil, thankfully. We did not risk to ask for a desert... No matter how fantastic the fado music at that restaurant is, the overall conclusion is NEVER AGAIN.

After a few months in Lisbon you begin to realise what some of the poorer Fado restaurants are affecting to the tourists who are here for a week and don't know any better. My experience of this place was typical. Poor food made earlier and heated up (somewhat). Bad wine ; we sent back two bottles which were corked, which... More

one of the last non-touristy place in Lisbon, this unpretentious restaurant only opens on weekends. Better book in advance, as we did, as the food and the fado is just marvellous. We had some cod fish and rims, the specialty of the house, served by a ever smiling waitress, in spite of the restaurant being full. We also really appreciated... More

We had such a great time. The restaurant was packed, the food was simple and delicious, the wait staff was friendly, the entertainment was lively, the crowd was rowdy and fun. We all enjoyed ourselves immensely. Would love to come back and enjoy the music again!

There are many places in Alfama where you can have dinner and listen to fado, but we are glad we came across this one, as the atmosphere and the people of Dragāo de Alfama really spoke to us. If you plan to enjoy one of their fado evenings, you will definitely need to call ahead and make a reservation. The... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
