Great meal here, interesting menu, well priced and good wine list and service too, the presentation of some dishes left me a little underwhelmed but flavours and cooking were fantastic.

Cantinho do Avillez has become another important tourist stop for those visiting Lisboa. The unpretentious decor, the simple atmosphere puts the food into perspectivo: it will impress you in the presentation, in the quality of the ingredients and taste. The gambas are cooked to perfection, the codfish is a creative combination of Portuguese tradition and the pork will surprise you!

We liked the consistent quality of all items. Place is unpretentious with efficient service. Hazelnut desert was really excellent.

We went here on the recommendation of a friend. Unable to get a dinner reservation, we were excited to stop in for lunch on our last day in Lisbon. The food was delicious. All the adults and children ate everything. Highly recommend!

Everyone told us that we had to have dinner in at least one José Avillez restaurant while we were visiting Lisbon. And boy were they right. The food at Cantinho do Avillez was great as was the entire staff in the restaurant (who went out of their way to ensure my wife, daughter, and I had an amazing experience). Strongly... More

My wife and I had a wonderful time at this restaurant . We were looking for a light lunch and o Cantinho hit the spot. Menu had choices for a full lunch or a quick snack. The fish soup was amazing, highly recommend it. The service was efficient and friendly. Highly recommend.

This was the only one of the 5 Avillez restaurants in Lisbon that we didn't catch first time round, so it was a must on this trip. Really loved the food, from the truffle butter to the veal trotters, lamb tagine and a glorious fish soup... our group went right across the menu and were not disappointed. The vibe felt... More

We were 3 persons, came to have dinner. But we have reserved for seats. This is where the confusion started (I guess). However the interior is cozy, the place was fully booked, I assume it's in general a good idea to reserve upfront. We started with ordering Gin Tonics and glasses of red wine. We received the Gin Tonic after... More

I wanted to go to Belcanto but had not booked in time so went alone to Cantinho. The food was very nice but the scallops in the traditional bread type stew was just not my thing. I had octopus pickled as an entre and loved that. I think the quality is amazing but I just didn't order the right thing.... More

Description
Located in Chiado, the Cantinho do Avillez restaurant welcomes you with a natural blend of the traditional and the modern. Quality is the priority with Chef Jose Avillez, and so nothing is left to chance. The cuisine, largely Portuguese inspired, is nevertheless influenced by travels abroad. The menu offers a wide choice of appetizers, "pregos" (steak sandwiches), entrees, main dishes and desserts, so that the gastronomic experience can be different at each visit. The service, which is pleasant and informal, contributes to the cheerful and relaxed climate.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
