Delicious food with a nice staff and a beautiful decoration. Been there more than 10 times, strongly recommend the mushrooms with chestnuts (cogumelos com castanhas), the toasted bread with goat cheese and honey (Tiborna de queijo e mel) and the Steak (bife à ideal?). Reservation required, specially on fridays and weekends.

Look like the old taverns of Lisbon in the yearly 20th century! With soul and one of the best typical portuguese food that you can get in the city! Has the magic of Lisbon

Our first night in Lisbon and didn't want to stray too far from the neighbourhood we were staying in, Bairro Alto. The apartment we were staying in listed a few recommended restaurants, one of which was Taberna Ideal. It was a Saturday night and we did not have reservations but we managed to get the last two seats. The tables... More

"Petiscar" is the Portuguese verb for having a snack, but it really means a bit more than just having a snack, it usually means having something nice, tasty... This is one of the best places to try the traditional Portuguese snacks. The menu is written in the blackboard, if you don't know what something is the staff will gladly explain... More

The restaurant came highly recommended by friends living in the area, but we found out the hard way that it is almost impossible to get seated on weekend nights without a reservation. However, two doors down the street they have a second location, which has the same kitchen but a somewhat different format (largely large tables which are shared by... More

Upon Recommendion of some local women, we tried this restaurant. Reservation recommended on weekends before 10:00. Food was well prepared. The mushrooms with chestnuts were decent. I enjoyed the 'bruschetta' with goat cheese, honey, and rosemary. The migas- a sort of thanksgiving stuffing sort of pancake wasn't our cup of tea but at least we tried it. The fish stew... More

Cosy restaurant with dishes encouraged to be served "family style". You must have a reservation as everyone seems to know about this place. Daily hand-written menus with excellent salads and other hot and cold items. The knowledgeable wait staff can recommend how much food should be ordered for your table. Great wines too. Good prices. Cash only.

We are regulars at Taberna Ideal, specially because of its great great food and cosy and casual atmosphere that makes you feel like you were back in your grandmother's kitchen for a big family party. It is always crowded, reservation is a must, but we actually love it like that, because it is a 'family crowded' frequently people chatting between... More
