We visited Cafe Royale on a very wet girly weekend trip to Lisbon - what was first intended to be a drink (sheltering from the rain) soon turned into 3-4 hours of food and drink which did not disappoint! The staff are wonderful and the atmosphere is great. Food and drink are both reasonably priced so definitely check out this... More

We read good reviews about this place and were disappointed. The atmosphere is nice enough. Food was not great, the menu sounds original but dishes are not that original and the food is not that tasty. Service was terrible and very slow. We would not recommend this place.

Many vegetarian options. Nice and genuine environment in the Chiadi quarters - just a few minute walk from the busy and crowded shopping streets. Very friendly staff. All food made with an interesting twist. We tried sweetpotate with chevre, crepes and a burger with pitabread, poached egg, tzatsiki and bacon. Recommended!

we had lunch and dinner here and really enjoyed the ingredients in their food. Nice little outside garden seating area at the rear.

Very tasty starters - hummus and baba ganoush - home made lemonade and fresh pressed juice for the kids, and delicious octopus, burger and eggplant for our mains. Total bill w wine, 42 Eur. We were happy customers :-)

This was our first stop when my wife and I recently traveled to Lisbon. We arrived at the restaurant in the late afternoon so it wasn't very busy and found a nice table outside which is right on the edge of the square. We had heard about the octopus from a friend who had been here previously and had to... More

We accidentally stumbled on this place on our first day in Lisbon. We were staying not to far away and had arrived before our check in. But we could not have found a better place for our first meal. The food was beautiful. The baked octopus was a winner all round and was even talked about all holiday. we sat... More

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
