A sad relic of a bygone era that puts misplaced pride over common courtesy. Sucolento may have excellent reviews but whoever the grouchy and passively aggressive person was who served us at 7.15pm today, could probably learn from McDonald’s on customer service and basic manners...when he recommended the fast food restaurant to us, twice, when we decided - politely - to go elsewhere because we weren’t sure our children would enjoy their no doubt excellent main courses. The restaurant was empty. My wife and I had decided to come back another time as a couple before the server decided to recommend McDonald’s up the road. I hadn’t realized McDonald’s and Sucolento served the same food.
I’ve been in Lisbon for four months and nowhere have I encountered so misanthropic a man who not only made these barbs, unprovoked, but greeted us on a hot day by telling us that the government prohibited the use of air conditioning because of COVID. If you don’t want guests at your empty restaurant, don’t return missed calls to them and offer them a table.
If the restaurateurs up the road, (Bistro Edelweiss and Tasca do Frances) and several of the hardworking people in the food business all over Lisbon, who are older and wiser and been in the game longer than Sucolento, can take the time to welcome foreign guests and patiently help their children with food options they aren’t accustomed to, they will stand the test of time and probably survive this pandemic. While the gentleman at Sucolento will probably not even have the basic qualifications of courtesy to qualify for a job at McDonald’s, which I believe is just up the road from them, and serving the same kind of food.
I hope your experience is better than mine.More
