Found this amazing place by an accident and it’s a TRUE hidden gem in Aveiro with genuine homemade food, sweets and drinks. Very fresh ingredients, very generous portions and a great value for your money and time. Absolutely love this place for breakfast, lunch, afternoon...tea or for a time of relaxation and amazing cake- away from the overpriced tourist traps!!!More

No estoy seguro si había ‘natas’ allí porque me ha distraído una torta de fresa y ruibarbo que estaba muy sabrosa y no seca como muchas de las tartas españolas. Voy a volver a...Aveiro por muchas razones y la primera es esta pastelería. La dueña era muy amable y podía hablar inglés muy bien. Está ubicada en un mercado pero es un poco difícil encontrar. Había muchas opciones de tartas y brownies sin gluten. This pastry shop was well worth the effort to find. Just about ten minutes walking from the more central part of town. The baker/owner was very welcoming and spoke enough English to assure me there would be no misunderstanding regarding my girlfriend’s gluten intolerance. And she had many gluten-free options. The strawberry/rhubarb cake was the best I have had in over a year living in Spain. Unlike many Spanish cakes, it was very moist and...I am writing about a cake I had over a month ago. Ate here during the Beer Festival in May 2018. On offer: Pigs' tripe. Chicken stomachs. Pigs' ears with shallots and parsley. Bacalhau and chickpea salad. Tortilla. Favas with chorizo and pork. For my money the proprietor deserves 5* just for serving such a bold spread....I tried everything, I love offal and we should all eat more it. The pigs' ears were a bit too chewy for me, but I saw plenty of locals walking away happy with bowls full of the stuff and smiling faces. Chicken parts were cooked perfectly, I would have made them spicier but this is a matter of taste. The tripes were fabulous, crispy like pork fat with a lovely liver-y finish. The dessert was a maracuja (passion-fruit) cake, and a sweet potato and chocolate cake. Only had room for the sweet potato and chocolate, but it was sublime. Naturally sweet, spiced, with chocolate ganache and candied nuts on top. It had a.smooth, soft texture like cheesecake, not sponge. Perfection. Forget about typical Portuguese sweets that are.. well.. just not that good.. and try something different. Every day new surprises with Ester! Awesome cakes. Great work.

Yummy food, friendly service and a sunny outlook! As a bonus, it's also very affordable and allergy friendly. There are a range of gluten free cakes and several are lactose free too. I really enjoyed the natural lemonade and the tuna salad, as well as...the cakes, of course! I highly recommend Chà & Bolachas.More

It's the place to go for good tasty homemade cakes, e.g. Chocolate cake with banana or carrot cake with mango and orange. Great for lunch or a snack! They also have some delicious toasts that is worth trying!
