Spent a few days in Brussels on a long weekend city break, had some awful experiences with restaurants closer to the city, after a recommendation to try around this square we found La Villette and had one of the nicest meals in a long time. The restaurant is very small, which adds to a cosy experience, great traditional feel, excellent... More

Great service and excellent Belgian food. We ordered mussels with creamy garlic sauce and it was delicious. Mussels were fresh and tasty. I highly recommend this family-owned restaurant.

After bypassing the usual tourist traps we found this little gem! Cosy and intimate and very authentic. The service was excellent and the mussels worthy of another visit. If you want traditional Belgian cuisine then this is a good choice off the beaten track!

Great place off the square for lunch. We ordered the daily special that included vegetable soup, entrecôte and fries. The food was very good and well presented. There is a second level seating area up a very narrow spiral staircase so don't be scared away if the lower level is full. The service was good although our waiter had a... More

I love this fancy and traditional restaurant in Brussels because you really feel like a local. Staff is friendly and food is great. The place is far enough from the touristic area; nevertheless the square and the nearby are very nice

When you want to get away from tourists give this cozy place a try. It's tiny with just 10 tables for 2 on the main level and this place is full of locals, no tourists. They serve Belgian/French cuisine. I had the Chicken Puff Pastry with came with a delicious cream sauce. Our servers were both warm, personable and excellent... More

A group of us stumbled on this place while walking around looking for a place to have dinner. They suggested we make a reservation for our evening meal as they get busy at night. Upon our arrival we were taken upstairs to a table already prepared for us. Our waiter spoke good English which made things a lot easier for... More

Two friends and I went to La Villette on a cold rainy fall evening. It was recommended by a friend who has been there a few months back. The mussels and fries were perfect for this cold weather. The large crock of mussels with onions and white wine was enough for one hungry diner. Don't miss the chocolate mousse. The... More

A group of business colleagues met and dined at this bijou restaurant yesterday. The food was incredibly good and prices were very reasonable. We will certainly be going back again!! Thanks Martin

Description
La Villette restaurant, opposite lovely St Catherine Church, is as Belgian as it can possibly be. The charming old stucco-fronted building is overhung with awnings, while inside the quaint checkered table cloths, rust wood-panelled walls, country chairs, old framed advertising, and chalkboard menu of specials make this a landmark of postcard Belgian-ness. Yes, you will find tourists here, but also savvy locals who understand that La Villette boasts a more imaginative menu, especially of la cuisine á la biére, than most St Catherine’s establishments. Its forty-strong carte of beers is a powerful incentive, too. Try starter of hot brochette of small Belgian sausages served with two jams, Belgian endive and onion, main course of seasonal mussels with escargot sauce or Fleish beef stew with Maredsous beer, and dessert of crème brûlée ‘the Chimay’s way’, unlike any you’ve tried before.
