This restaurant is Michelin starred for as log as I know. So I was very curious to visit (birthday occasion). Old fashioned museumlike house but the kitchen is up to date, the quality shines - even in simple (looking) dishes. I had the very best smoked eel of my life, followed by sweetbreads and pear-pie. The wine list (on Ipad)... More

The chef Johan Segers came to our table to explain the menu and was very friendly. The food you get here is honest with no concessions to modern cooking. Your meat and one or two vegetables and that is it. All of very good quality, but since we love modern cooking we found ourselves back in time. But that is... More

Centrally located in Antwerp, 't Fornuis is a formal but comfortable place for slow food. The food and wines are excellent and the service friendly and formal (or friendly but formal; take your pick). The staff takes obvious pride in the quality of the restaurant. Not for a tight budget. Garage parking nearby, or take a tram.

The entire experience from drinks through amuse-bouche to the dinner itself was an elegant glide from one delightful taste to another. The chef's ability to recite all the dishes of the day and then recall everyone's order perfectly was entertaining too. I was a guest of a business colleague so no idea of the cost but it was clearly not... More

the setting, the interior, the professional service combined with the "rebel"-style of the Chef.... it is still a interesting experience. Food wise, I was not blown away. Top quality ingredients but taste wise I was disappointed. My coquilles were swimming in beurre noisette (really too much) ; the manicures (seabags) was tasteless. Wines, coffee, tea was fine.

This centrally located restaurant offers an excellent meal in a great interior. It is a relatively small place and the chef basically determines what you will eat. We had some excellent chicken with morilles as main dish. The starter were scallops over an interesting salad, but there were toommany flavours and thus it felt a bit convoluted. I would definitely... More

This is a place where tourists would love to come (in small groups though, given the size of the restaurant), because of its historic looks, the setting (next to the cathedral), the fine and fresh food, the personable service and the 'présence' of the chef. He tells you what he has made especially for you, in a very convicing and... More

On reflecting on our meal at 't Fornuis last night, it struck me that it is far harder to gain a Michelin star than to lose one! The gulf, for example, between the recently awarded Michelin star to the UK's brightest young chef, Michael O'Hare (Man Behind the Curtain in Leeds) and the rather unimaginative and very traditional cuisine at... Not sure how to say this, but everyone is raving about this restaurant and I found the food bland, the waiters indifferent and the chef positively insulting..... (When I asked to have the starters repeated he asked whether he should serve me some brains first so that I would remember next time... Haha). Very nice place as such, but I... More
