We had the schnitzel and we split the meal, as is our custom. Some restaurants have trouble with that idea, but here they were fine with it and served us a good meal .

In this place you can have a good meal for a reasonable price. I can recommend the spare ribs. I would certainly come back when in Leiden.

Very friendly staff in this simple restaurant. The portions were large but not of the highest quality. Good place if a small group want a simple, cheap and quick meal.

Went for my birthday with the family. We had a lovely meal. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. Service was very good & the restaurant had a great atmosphere. And was very good value. I would recommend a visit.

This was an excellent restaurant/pub. The food was excellent for about half the price of many other places selling similar food nearer the centre. The atmosphere was great. We paid about €60 for three courses for three people with drinks. The portions were big and...there was a wide range of options. The service was very good. Worth noting, though, that they don't take cards.More

We both needed warming up as it was a freezing night. We were served hearty portions of food - steak and schnitzel. A decent bottle of red sent us on our walk home warmer than when we arrived. Service was friendly.

The restaurant offers value for money: it is inexpensive, but do not expect a very special meal. However, what it does, it does well. Great for students, and a quick, simple bite to eat.

If not for the ribs, which in my opinion are the best served in town, this place must be visited due to overall atmosphere and charming personnel. Selection of music to be played creates exactly right mood for the great evening.

This place makes you feel like you are at home. All the staff is friendly and smiling, which is something rare nowadays. outside seating on the boat for the sunny days, inside small cosy room and bigger room at the back for groups. the food...is tasty and of good value the fries are not fresh made and come from the frozen department of the supermarket nothing wrong with that and that probably necessary to place a 3 course menu at 18€. i tried many other restaurants of the price range in Leiden and was really disappointed by the poor quality of the service or the food just didn't taste nice. at HBG, the manager himself is often passing in the dinning room to check that everything is goes well and it is appreciated.More

I went to dinner with the kids, so we looked for nothing special, but with a "restaurant" feel. Holle Bolle Gijs delivers. Not being the weekend we were not harassed by too many stag parties and the like. Friendly staff, no long waiting times, Brand...Imperator available (one of my favorite beers). We had some bread, duck, schnitzel, lamb. All in the lower quality range, but well cooked, accompanied by french fries (what else with kids) and -surprise- salsify roots. I had a coffee instead of dessert, the kids had some drinks and I had a friend walk in to have a beer with us. Tip included it set me back 65E, very reasonale indeed. Will we be back? Yes, the kids loved it, and it delivers what it promises.More
