Went there for lunch with 2 friends, the taste of the food is ok but there is absolutely no effort in the presentation and neither in the making of the dishes... Prices are a bit cheaper than average but as said in the title and compared to what can be found in Amsterdam, the toasts and sandwiches are plain and... More

We came across this place after being disappointed by what was on offer at another cafe that had been recommended. The menu was in Dutch but the barman/waiter soon translated it for us. I ordered lamb curry (too much coriander for me, but that's me ...) and by husband had a burger. Good, tasty food, at reasonable prices - what... More

Great little cafe and bar to stop at on your travels through Amsterdam. You must try the beef croquettes- delicious and something different. Sorry, I keep forgetting to take a photo of the food before I devour it 😜 Top nosh! 👌

Found a news article/review about this cafe so wanted to try it for our selfs. Glad we did! We were there for a late breakfast. Loved it. My partner at the time, ordered the smoked salmon with avocado, cucumber and horseradish mayo sandwich and I had the club sandwich (bacon, smoked turkey, lettuce tomato and mustard mayo) - Both reasonably... We went once for lunch and once for coffee break. The sandwiches were fresh and service quick. The coffee could be improved.

Friendly staff and good atmosphere. We had dinner and a few beers. Popular spot, so it took a while to get the food. But all in all a place that we recommend!

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The sandwiches and burgers were amazing. No high chair for our toddler, but they were accommodating nonetheless. I think it gets busy in the evening (and probably not good for kids), but was perfect for lunch.

Jordan is a beautiful little area on the way into the Centre of Amsterdam from Westerpark (where we were staying.) This pub was a really lovely little, old style but quirky pub, with a range if dutch local and regional ales on tap. Prices were usual for Amsterdam but the atmosphere was pretty youthful considering the age of the building... More

This is an authentic Dutch cafe. Nothing pretentious, just good food & drink and helpful service. Staff are knowledgable and engaging. The menu is traditional, but I would recommend an 'Uitsmijter' which is ham, cheese & eggs on toast - perfect! The cafe is worth a visit and release from the tourist traps of Amsterdam.

We were looking for simple food after 24 hours of travel. We came across the Cafe De Blaffende Vis (translated "The Barking Fish") while looking at another restaurant. The menu, on a chalkboard and in Dutch, was quickly translated by the bartender. Each evening they have a 4 item menu, based on what is available at the market. Prices were... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
