Van Kerkwijk, situated at the Nes 41 just behind Dam square, is a classic Amsterdam cafe and restaurant where you can eat and drink from early in the morning till late in the evening. Van Kerkwijk sisters have chosen a personal approach. That's why a menu doesn't exist and your options are presented at the table by your waiter. Van Kerkwijk stands for quality food and drinks in an urban atmosphere. Characteristic, easy going, value for money. You feel at home between the regular customers who keep returning for the varied menu and the relax atmosphere. Van Kerkwijk doesn't take reservations, walk in for a table or wait at the bar with a good beer or wine.
Really loved our visit here last night. The menu is presented orally- got to love that! I had salmon and my husband had cod - both were delicious land our starter was a smoked fish spread that was awesome. Go early or be prepared to...More
My wife and I went here on a Monday night, about 6pm. We were seated straight away and made to feel welcome right from the start. Although there is no menu to look at, the staff explain it all very well. I had chicken in...More
We went here twice during a recent trip and were blown away both times. We went quite early so were lucky to get seated almost right away, by the time we left the bar area was heaving with people waiting for a table. The staff...More
I went to Amsterdam for a couple of days with a friend. Our last night we decided to treat ourselves with a nice dinner and we ended up in this restaurant. At the beginning we found the concept a bit weird but interesting. It is...More
We sort of found this place by accident. It's a little strange to order without seeing a menu or prices. But it turns out to be one of our nicest Amsterdam dining experiences. Service was perfect, food was excellent and the vibe of the place...More
Great find. Small restaurant just off Dam Square. You may have to wait for a table but there’s a small bar where you can have a drink while you wait. Staff really friendly and efficient. No written menu but they explain what’s available personally at...More

The restaurant does not have a printed menu. The server lets you know what choices are available that evening. We shared mussels as an appetizer, they were prepared in wine and garlic and were very tasty. For the main course we tried the steak and...More
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring
hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

This was my review after visiting at end February 2017. May I add that we shared a starter and dessert and were very happy and replete by the end of dinner. The E80 included a tip : An intimiate little restaurant which does not accept reservations. This can happily be circumvented however by starting on the wine, sitting at the bar, until a table becomes available. The atmosphere is unrushed and enjoyable and we didn't mind the wait in such a jovial and cosy atmosphere. The wine list and menu are small, however both the wine and the dishes we chose were superb. Staff is exceptionally friendly and accomodating and discusses the food availability with patrons. The bill for 1 starter, 2 main courses, one dessert, a bottle of wine and water came to 80 Euros. A very big well done to the staff. Will definitely return when next in Amsterdam.
