Beautiful dishes and very good service. I have been here twice now. Dishes were very nice and contemporary. The wines that the sommelier selects are wonderful. I'll go back!

Inconsistency is Restaurant Vermeer's biggest downfall. Going to a Michelin star restaurant you expect Michelin star food and service and unfortunately that's definitely not what we got. While the service started out quite good it gradually got worse and worse to the point that we were being ignored by the end of the night. My girlfriend and I went for... More

The food at Vermeer was very good -- many choices of small plates and entrees. The home-made macaroons were simply to die for.... all flavors! We ate two meals at this restaurant and it was very pleasant. The staff was adequate - nothing special and they did not go "out of their way" for anything, but the food made up... More

Loved this place! My fiancé and I ate with friends and we chose the 6 course 'menu'. I say 'menu' because it basically consisted of a list of fresh, in season, local ingredients! We advised our dietary requirements (3 pescatarians) and gave some hints at what we would hope to be served from the 'menu'! Wow! 5 out of the... More

We ate here last week and all four of us loved it. An adventurous taster menu, great service, lovely surroundings. I wasn't a big fan of the caramel coated brussel sprouts as an amuse bouche but they were fun.

Planning to be in Amsterdam for a weekend, I have been searching for a great restaurant serving experimental dutch cuisine. Vermeer restaurant came up. We opted for the 6-course menu and let the restaurant pair the wine. The choice of wines might have looked somehow "brave" for some dishes in terms of flavors: sometimes too strong at first, but certainly... More

We had a wonderful dinner. It turned out to be somewhat more expensive than we thought but thoroughly enjoyed due to the staff...particularly the sommelier, the manager and several of the staff that assisted us. They made the evening special. Contrary to what some other reviews mentioned, we found the decor and environment warm, welcoming, and first class. We're surprised... More

A SUPERB restaurant. We travelled to Amsterdam to celebrate our Anniversary, and stayed at the NH Barbizon. We decided to book a table at Vermeer and we were not disappointed. It was simply stunning. On arrival we had a cocktail, and were then shown to our table. We opted for the 5-course dinner and accompanying wine flight. A great decision.... More

We don't usually spend this kind of money for dinner (100-200 pp), especially not when it's out of pocket and at a 5 minute bike ride from home. But, it was our one and only 25th anniversary. And a worthy celebration it was. The ever changing menu exists of a choice for the desired number of courses, and a 'word... More

Vermeer was one of our favourite restaurants in Amsterdam so we were very keen to visit it after it had a major refurbishment. Everything has changed and not for the better. The fireplace has gone and so have menus. You now get a cryptic list of ingredients and are asked about any allergies you might suffer, before being served a... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
