While we were hoping for traditional Dutch food, unfortunately 2 of the 4 in our party were sickened by the food. Both had the recommended Stampotten, and both ended with vomiting and well the “other stuff” that goes along with bad food. Son had the...More

Terrific meal with excellent service in traditional surroundings. If you fail to get in you can slip in to little brother De Kongingshut next door, but the main restaurant is stronger on atmosphere and slightly more formal. Even so it's an easy place to relax...More

Had dinner on our last night in Amsterdam... Outstanding dinner, perfectly served. Very traditional and apparently popular restaurant in the center of A'dam. Service was quick and professional. Food is traditional so a lot meat and potato on the menu but well prepared. You dont have to leave this restaurant hungry.

We found this restaurant via Trip Advisor, but fell in love as soon as we walked in. It is kind of off the beaten path and on quieter streets but the host, Oscar, and all of the staff were warm, welcoming, and acommodating. I would...More

Haesje Claes specializes in Dutch food. Dutch cuisine is not especially noteworthy, leaning as it does toward meat and potatoes. But if you look at some of the portraits rendered by the Dutch masters in the 17th century, you can see that the cuisine kept...More

It is very hard to find Dutch cuisine in Amsterdam Center. You really have to go to the Jordaan area for that. We did find such a place after a long search. This restaurant is really nice. The food was fantastic! I had the stamppotten....More

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of
tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists
and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the
best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe.
Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops
of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones
Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods
such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring

“Haesje Claes” is a restaurant situated in the historical center of Amsterdam, between the Spui and the Dam square, across from the Amsterdam Museum. The restaurant occupies six, epic buildings, in which the original architectural features such as little steps, corridors and hallways all have been preserved. Likewise, the exterior of the building is a beautiful example of traditional Dutch architecture. All chambers are breathing a century old ambiance, perfectly suited for a comfortable and casual lunch or dinner. The name Haesje Claes originates from the Lady Haesje Claes, who was born in 1520, and was a daughter of a rich salesman. She was also the founder of the “Burgerweeshuis” (orphanage) formerly located in the Amsterdam Museum. The interior is comprised of paintings depicting scenes from the orphanage and many paintings and tiles in the restaurant date back to this time period. Our kitchen is open daily from 12:00 till 22:00
