This is the best meal we have had in Amsterdam. We walked in on a Monday afternoon and requested a table for two. We were immediately seated and got menus but waited good 15 minutes for a waiter to come ask us about drinks. No...More

Just came across this little gem while strolling around Amsterdam. Looked nice so went back in the evening for a meal. It is a lovely traditional restaurant set in an 16th century building, close to Dam Square, very quaint and cosy. It was very busy...More

I would have honestly given a better review than this one if it was not for an unpleasant episode with a rude waitress who did not have patience to explain the intricate names of the local dishes. She quite spoiled our romantic dinner.

We loved the selection of afordable Dutch food. It was very tasty and the atmosphere makes you feel at home and is authentic. We will definitely return. Dishes for all family members. Also the kids loved their dishes.

Our family of 4 walked in without reservation not expecting to be seated at all. To our surprise, they were able to seat us right away. We were kind of early for dinner anyway. It was only 5pm. The waitress said as long as we...More

I don't know how to rate this. We found it through trip advisor. There was a queue outside but we had made a reservation. It was sold as a traditional Dutch restaurant and we feel that we had Dutch food. They forgot our starter but...More

As recommended restaurant and an institution in Amsterdam, Haesje Claes draws upon Golden Age Amsterdam culture, heavy wood furniture, lead glass ornaments, part candle-light, part pub-as-restaurant atmosphere. During our three-course meal, we had three different waiters and the staff seemed to always be doing something...More

Recommended to me by a friend who is originally from Amsterdam., restaurant did not disappoint. Good variety of food from modest to more elegant. In beautiful conglomeration of room spanning 6 centuries old buildings, the atmosphere is warm and cozy. Try traditional hutsput, a traditional...More

Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of
tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists
and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the
best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe.
Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops
of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones
Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods
such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring

“Haesje Claes” is a restaurant situated in the historical center of Amsterdam, between the Spui and the Dam square, across from the Amsterdam Museum. The restaurant occupies six, epic buildings, in which the original architectural features such as little steps, corridors and hallways all have been preserved. Likewise, the exterior of the building is a beautiful example of traditional Dutch architecture. All chambers are breathing a century old ambiance, perfectly suited for a comfortable and casual lunch or dinner.
The name Haesje Claes originates from the Lady Haesje Claes, who was born in 1520, and was a daughter of a rich salesman. She was also the founder of the “Burgerweeshuis” (orphanage) formerly located in the Amsterdam Museum. The interior is comprised of paintings depicting scenes from the orphanage and many paintings and tiles in the restaurant date back to this time period.

Our kitchen is open daily from 12:00 till 22:00
